Camping Supplies List

We are camping people. Not only have we lived in a camper for about 2 years of our married life, but we love being outdoors, being at the lake, and being together as a family. Another reason we love camping is because it’s a great frugal way to have a vacation or a road trip. You can easily pack everything you need, skip the expensive hotels, and have less stress overall since you have a familiar place to stay each night.

We’ve traveled quite a bit over the last several years (and I come from a family that was very into camping!) so we’ve come up with a good camping supplies list that we need each trip. Plus I’m going to share with you a few extra trips on how to make packing a little easier….read on!

So what do you really need for a successful camping trip? Of course it depends on where you are going and what activities you are planning while you are there, but here are the basics.

  • Cooking Utensils (Spoons, knives, cookware, lighter, firewood or charcoal, cooking forks, oven mitts, foil, ect)
  • First Aid Kit
  • Sleeping Bags or Linens
  • Pillows
  • Flashlights with Batteries
  • Water (either bottles or a travel filter, for both cooking and drinking)
  • Clothes (1 outfit for each day + 1 extra + sweater or jacket)
  • Shoes (+ an extra if needed)
  • Sunscreen and Bug Spray
  • Towels (both for cooking and people)
  • Cleaning Supplies (dish soap, sponge, ect)
  • Bathroom Tissue and Facial Tissue
  • Games

Camping Supplies List

For a more complete list of supplies, print the checklist below. The above are just the basics that pretty much will need to be along on every camping trip no matter where you are going or what the weather is going to be. Of course if you are going to do anything else such as swimming or fishing you will want to bring along appropriate gear.

Here are a few more things that I consider my must haves for camping. Maybe not conventional but I couldn’t go anywhere without them!

I made a handy little list of the basics to take along on your camping trip so the next time you head out don’t forget to print this list off so you don’t forget to take anything along that you might need!

We love camping and try to go every weekend possible! I hope the list will help you get a little more organized on your next camping trip.

We’ve learned a good deal about camping over the last several years, especially with living in a camping. I would love to share fun camping menus and other tips like how to get free and cheap campsites if anyone is interested. Leave comments and let me know!

  1. Yes,i would love camping menus. I miss you posting your regular menus also. Thank you for all the things you do post tho.

  2. we love to camp & would love to have fresh ideas for menus……& your list is basically our list also 🙂

  3. Merissa, I too would love to see your camping menus! We used to have a permanent campsite, but gave it up several years ago, too costly and too much work. We bought a popup this year, as we are travelling to several NASCAR races, and it’s cheaper and easier to camp at the track…Plus, our grandson is getting bigger (2 1/2) and we want to introduce him to the camping experience! I would love to hear your tips on free/inexpensive camping sites as well!

  4. I leave my camp trailer packed all year,(except for food). In a disaster, survival situation, all I have to do is load some food, hook up and go’
Everything to survive is already there’

  7. I’ve been planning a camping vacation with my family, but I don’t know exactly what to bring. I didn’t even think about needing to bring extra shoes, just in case! I’ll make sure I inform everyone else involved to bring some extra, too. Thanks for the helpful article!
