We love to enjoy popcorn as a snack, but this Caramel Chocolate Popcorn takes this ordinary treat to a new level. Covered in caramel and warm chocolate, everyone will want some!
Chocolate Caramel Popcorn
Once, on a trip through Wisconsin, we stopped at an outlet mall, and I went into a Harry and David store. They had bags upon bags of this amazing-looking chocolate and caramel popcorn. It looked great, but there was no way I would pay $7 for a bag of something I could easily make at home.
Once we got home, I set to work on this equally delicious (and much more frugal) version as a treat for my family. It turned out so yummy and pretty that I thought it would make a great gift for a teacher or friend. It would also be a good addition to any birthday or holiday party. Everyone loves it!
Caramel Chocolate Popcorn Recipe
How to make a yummy sweet caramel chocolate popcorn.
Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups unpopped popcorn kernels
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
-
Air pop the popcorn in an air popper machine or a microwaveable popcorn bowl like I did. Then put the popped corn in a bowl and throw away any unpopped kernels.
-
In a saucepan, mix together the butter, sugars, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir consistently so it doesn’t burn. When it starts to boil let it boil for one minute.
-
In the meantime, start melting the chocolate chips.
-
Coat half the popcorn with the caramel mixture and then coat the other half of the mixture with the melted chocolate. Try and coat the popcorn as evenly as possible. Spread it out on wax paper and let dry.
-
Once it’s dry, you can bag it up and put it in any kind of packaging. Tie a ribbon around it and add a pretty tag to it to deliver to a friend or give as a gift. Or you can skip the bag and eat it straight off the tray. 😉
More Topping Ideas
When it comes to popcorn toppings, the sky is the limit! Try different variations of this recipe for different occasions or to make the perfect combination for your family!
Chocolate – I used half white chocolate and half milk chocolate for my popcorn. You could choose to do either or choose something totally different like delicious dark chocolate. You might even be able to find some colored melting chocolate markdown after the holidays to use if you wanted to do a colored version for a birthday party or baby shower.
Flavors– If you wanted to get creative you could add different flavors to the chocolate. I thought about adding a cappuccino mix or an extract, like vanilla.
Tip: Wouldn’t a Hot Cocoa popcorn taste delicious? Maybe with some Marshmallows added in?
Nuts – If you want a little extra crunch, you can sprinkle some nuts on your tray of chocolate popcorn before bagging it up.
Sprinkles – You can add a little extra pop of color to your popcorn by sprinkling some sprinkles on top of your drying popcorn.

I love those Harry and David popcorn too so I'll have to try to make this. It looks yummy and a lot cheaper! Thanks for posting! You're a blessing!!!
What do you use the shortening for? I can’t find it in the directions.
Sorry, fixing the ingredient list now.
How long will this stay good for? I’m looking to give it as Christmas gifts, so just wondering how far ahead I can make it.
It’s fresh popcorn with no preservatives so I would make it as close to giving it as you possibly can.
