Are you looking for a delicious upgrade to standard French bread? This Cheesy French Bread is something that the whole family will love! The perfect side to go with spaghetti.
Cheesy French Bread
My hubby requested that I make French bread with cheese the other day, and while I’ve made French Bread before, I haven’t tried the cheesy kind.
It turns out all you have to do is put some cheese on top, and it looks just like the stuff at the deli.
This recipe is perfect for serving on the side of spaghetti or soups or you can cut it thinly to make sandwiches. No matter how you use it (even if you just slice it and spread on some butter) it’s delicious and super frugal!
Making French Bread By Hand
My instructions below are to make the bread dough using a bread machine. If you don’t have a bread machine, you can still make this recipe by hand.
Proof the yeast first by combining the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Add together with the flour and salt and knead for several minutes. Let the bread rise until it is doubled, and then follow the rest of the instructions above.
I use one of these 3 French Loaf Pans to bake my French bread. They are AMAZING!

Thank you for all the stuff that you share with us. I sure appreciate it.
For this recipe, are you able to use honey instead? We are trying not to have sugar in our diet.
Thank you 🙂
I think that would work in this recipe but I’m not sure what the ratio would be since I don’t normally use honey to cook with. Sorry I can’t help more! I would just try a small amount.
Would not using a bread machine change the recipe, or could this be done by hand (or with a mixer)?
You could make this recipe either way and should be able to make it the same way. Just make sure to knead once, let it rise, knead the second time and let it rise once more before baking.
silly question, are the egg whites only for the top of the bread
In this recipe, yes they are.
Hi, can I check the actual measurements in grams for the cups/spoons? I tried to google but there are different answers.
Many thanks.
