 Homemade Graham Crackers

Graham crackers from the store can not only be so expensive but also filled with some things you’d rather not munch on. Luckily they are one of those things that are super easy to make from scratch! I made mine a little too thick and they came out like soft thin cookies but my husband loved them! So either way you make them, crunchy or soft, I think they would be good! This recipe is perfect with summer campfires coming up soon!

Homemade Graham Crackers

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup white flour
  • 1 3/4 cup wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 t.easpoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 Tablespoons molasses
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Graham Cracker Making

Mix all dry ingredients together. Add the butter (I put mine in the blender) and mix together. Add the honey, molasses, water, and vanilla.

Roll Out Graham Cracker Dough

Roll out very flat onto a baking sheet. (About 1/8 in. thick) It helps the cover the dough with wax paper before you roll it. Chill in refrigerator for about an hour. Heat oven to 350F.

Cut Graham Crackers

Use a pizza cutter to score the dough into pieces.

Pricking Graham Crackers

Then prick it with a toothpick in several places.

Homemade Graham Cracker

Bake about 15 minutes or until desired hardness is reached. So simple!

I have not tried it yet but you may be able to use my Gluten Free Flour Blend + Brown Rice Flour in place of the white and wheat flours in this recipe. If you do try this switch, please let us know in the comments section how it goes!

Now, I know this isn’t in any way healthy but one of my favorite treats when I was growing up with graham crackers with a little frosting spread on top. If this is one of your *secret* favorite snacks too, you might want to try this yummy Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe or this recipe for The Best Cream Cheese Frosting to top your graham crackers. 1. Since these have to be flipped after just a few minutes, do you think they could be made on a griddle instead of baking. (I’m always looking for a way to cook without turning my oven on in this hot weather!)

    1. Ok I just got done making these. I made some on my griddle and the rest in the oven. They were both really good but the ones on the griddle were more pliable and were more like a cookie but definitely good. The ones in the oven were crisper and snapped in half more like a cracker. Either way I will eat too many of them although I am in the process of eating all the broken ones which I understand are less fattening due to calorie-leakage. Also, leave yourself plenty of room to get the spatula in between cookies because if you don’t get the spatula completely under them to turn, they will bend and break.

  2. Made them yesterday. Very good!! First time I have ever made graham crackers. Will be making these again!

  3. My children love graham crackers, but I’ve never been a fan (even when marshmallows and chocolate are involved!) Can’t wait to try these. Thanks!

  4. Could you make these using all whole-wheat flour? We don’t have any other type of flour on hand. I really REALLY want to make these as a treat for my kiddos (who am I kidding, myself too)!!

      1. Thank you so much for the tutorial and various tips. They are all useful. I am so looking forward to bake the crackers. Stay blessed.

    1. You can instead of the whole wheat but if you can’t find it or don’t want to buy the extra flour, whole wheat tastes pretty much the same. 🙂

  5. I made these Gram Crackers today! Oh my they are so good and very easy to make! My daughter (16mo) just loved them! I didn’t put in the honey, cause of her age.

  6. I made these on Thursday and they were completely gone by Sunday. I’m currently making a second batch. These taste amazing and are easy to make!

  7. I have made these twice and they are very yummy! I used whole wheat pastry flour for the flour. I also subbed maple syrup for the honey since we were out. We used small cookie/cracker cutters for these and didn’t flip them since they were pretty small. They turned out great! Thank you for mentioning that you can just crumble them on a pan if making them for graham cracker crusts! I would have never thought of that, and it saved me a lot of time at Thanksgiving.

    1. Hi, I have honey with truffles (the mushrooms) in my fridge. Can I use that instead of molasses? I have noticed that it’s not as sweet as regular honey and I’m no a fan of molasses (I find the taste is to strong if used with anything but ginger)

  8. sounds so good/ too bad I do not have one with my first morning cup of coffee while I work through my emails. thank you

    1. Oh, sorry, it’s u the text under one of the pictures. Might be helpful to include it on the ingredients list to pre-heat over to 350 degrees.

      Thanks!

  9. These Look Amazingly delicious. I am going to try them soon. I love Graham Crackers. These would be so much better than store bought. Thanks for the great recipes. They always are so much appreciated!!!
    Merry Christmas!!!

  10. I made these gluten free by using 1 c. oat flour and 1.25 Bob’s Red Mill GF 1:1 flour. It was a VERY sticky dough that required a lot of flour to be able to roll. I found that I had to freeze the cut squares for about 30 minutes before I could transfer them onto the baking sheet (otherwise they would just wrinkle up when I tried to use a spatula under them). I used them to make S’mores pops for our church’s coffee shop, and people LOVED them!!! One lady placed a special order for 30 more for her son’s classroom Christmas party. And just tonight, another lady mentioned that I should make them again for Valentine’s Day. I think I will! These crackers are so delicious, and the pops looked so adorable to boot!

  11. Looks great. One of my favorite snacks. Topped with peanut butter or Nutella even better. Would love if this was a printable recipe.

  12. I just found you last week and signed up to get recipes. I have copied several and will be making them soon. I am excited to see recipes that will give me healthier food that is similar to what I have been buying from the store. I have created a new folder for your recipes that allow me to make my own food. I have been doing more canning the last few years, canning foods I’ve never canned before, just so I have something on my shelves that I can warm quickly for a good, home cooked meal. I also can control what does or does not go into it. Thanks for all you do to give others of us who want to be more in control of what we eat more options for healthier versions of grocery store products.
