I’ve always wanted to make my own homemade gummies. When I finally got around to it I realized it’s so much easier than I thought and takes very little time. These are delicious and my boys love them for a little snack or special treat.

Homemade Gummies

What you need:

  • 4 Tablespoons unflavored gelatin *See my note below*
  • 1 cup fruit juice

*A note on the gelatin… We’ve tried several different kinds over the years and our favorites are the Great Lakes Gelatin and Vital Proteins Gelatin. Great Lakes brand is a bit less expensive but our preference is Vital Proteins since we feel it has less of a scent and dissolves better than the other.

Combine the gelatin with the juice and let it “bloom” while the juice is still cold. Place the mixture on the stovetop and mix the ingredients together. Make sure all the ingredients are mixed together well and there are no lumps. Put it on a saucepan on the stove and warm until melted begin careful not to burn it and stirring frequently. When it’s melted, pour it into the molds, containers, or whatever you have.  Let it sit in the freezer or fridge for 10 minutes. Peel the gummies off the molds after you take them back out of the fridge.

These would make a good part of a gift! You could use them in stockings or you could stick them in a gift basket or just make up a bunch of different flavors and make them the entire gift! Gummies can be stored at room temp for a little while but will last the longest (about a week) when stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

We’ve been making these gummies as a treat for years and they are always a welcome little snack. The unflavored gelatins that I linked to above have wonderful amounts of protein in each serving so this is a special treat that I don’t mind making for the kids whenever they ask.

I'm hoping to get another video up tomorrow if I get the time. The cooking ones are kinda fun:)

    1. I just made some gummies in daisy molds and they came out perfect!! Thanks so much for the recipe and video. I never knew making gummies could be so simple and so much fun! I’m making some for Mother’s Day gifts!

  3. What a wonderful demostration you did. Look forward to seeing more. Never knew how to make these and you made it look so easy. Thank you.Look forward to making them with my little grand daughters and making them for Christmas for gift baskets. Kudos to you for doing this site and doing the video.

  4. Hi! My oldest daughter & I made these tonight while we were watching Little House on the Prairie (Season 1) thanks to Netflix. Anyway, they were a hit! We did cherry ones. I used the cylinder ice trays I had already for my water bottle ice & they worked fine. The gummies are a little sticky on top, but not too bad. How do you store them? In the fridge, on the counter, etc? Thanks so much for the recipe!

  5. It was nice to hear your voice. My little man would love these. A new dessert to make around holidays!!

  6. Have you ever tried sugar free gelatin in this recipe? I love gummies and will eat way to many, so lower calorie is good:)

  7. Ok, I don’t think I would recommend the sugar free version…. something was just not quite right. Do yours have bubbly bottoms?

    1. Unfortunately this recipe requires gelatin. I know it’s sold at Walmart but sometimes it’s hard to find so you might have to ask. Otherwise you could order it on Amazon.

  10. Yummy! Just made these. So easy and tasty! Thanks for the recipe! Question for you, have you ever made them with fruit juice instead of a package of jello? How did they turn out? And I’m wondering if you need to add more gelatin if you use fruit juice, since you don’t have the gelatin from the jello box??

  11. And P.S. I just found a site for homemade gummies, and she brushed them with cornstarch after they were done to prevent them from sticking to each other. Maybe I’ll try this and see how it works.

  12. Just found this recipe on your frugal holiday treats page. Definitely going to be making some of these for the kids on Christmas eve. May even have to leave some for santa 😉

  13. Could I use agar agar to replace the gelatin?

My daughter is intolerant of many food items and making her treats is so difficult.

Love the recipes on the site and so many of the household tips as well.
