How to Make Peach Gummies and Peachy O’s Candy

How to Make Peach Gummies

I used to love those little sugary, peachy-flavored gummies! A few years ago, I was trying to think about how I could use up the rest of the jar of peaches that I had used for the Peach Cobbler Muffins and I came up with the idea to attempt to make my own peachy gummies.

You can make these with or without sugar. The version with sugar is more like what you find in the store, and the version without is still delicious! Either way it’s like a little bit of summer vacation in your mouth.

Unlike the kind from the store, these Peach Gummies are made with real fruit and no artificial flavors or colorings. They don’t need pectin, corn syrup, citric acid, or any other hard-to-find ingredients. Of course, they are naturally wheat free and gluten-free, free of peanuts or tree nuts, eggs, soy-free, and free from any milk products.

A typically gummy from the store contains things we don’t really need like “natural flavoring”, FD&C Yellow dye, glucose syrup, lactic acid, malic acid, sodium citrate, titanium dioxide, and other things that are unnecessary.

Even if you add the sugar to make these as a substitute for the store candy, they are still better for you than your average store-bought gummy!

Ingredients in Homemade Peachy O’s

  • Peaches. You can use canned peaches or fresh peaches. You could also use peach juice concentrate or peach nectar if you have neither on hand.
  • Unflavored Gelatin. You can get Knox Unflavored Gelatin at the store if you don’t want a lot. I prefer to buy Vital Proteins brand. You could also try powdered Agar Agar for a vegan version but I have not tried it this way.
  • Sugar. This is optional but makes them more like the Peachy O’s Candy treat. If you leave it out they will just be a peach gummy.

Instructions for Making Homemade Peach Gummies

In addition to the ingredients, you will also need an 8×8 baking pan, some parchment paper, and a blender.

Blended Peaches

Puree the peaches in a food processor or something similar. (I love my Magic Bullet for small projects, found it for $1.50 at a garage sale!)

Peach Puree

Put the peaches in a saucepan and heat them up. Whisk in the gelatin until no clumps remain. Once it gets to a boil, let it bubble (while stirring) for 2 minutes.

Peach Gummies

Pour the peach mixture into the 8×8 pan. It does not need to be greased, but you can line it with parchment paper if you are worried that it will stick. Stick the gummies in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

Peachy Os

After the gummies have set, slice them and take them out of the pan. If you want them to be like the Peachy O’s candy, you can add sugar just before eating, otherwise, eat them as peach gummies, they don’t really need any sugar!

*Note: don’t store the ones coated in sugar as the sugar will get watery. Store them without being sugar coated.

  2. I just realized you used canned not fresh peaches, so do you think it’ll work with fresh peaches? Would I need to add some sugar? Thanks!

  4. These look fantastic. Maybe you said already, but I didn’t see it:

    Can you use any fruit? Does it have to be canned?

    1. Most fruits will work for this. There are a couple (like pineapple) that don’t mix well with the gelatin. You can use any fruit…fresh, frozen, or canned!

      1. Anything with an acidic pH will destroy the gelatin’s ability to gel.

        Also, you can replace the gelatin for agar and have these be shelf stable without needing to store in a fridge due to melting points

        1. Cream, It’s not the acid that interferes with gelling, but certain enzymes found in RAW pineapple and kiwis. Cook them (or use canned) and you deactivate the enzymes, allowing the gelatine to gel. Most other raw fruits will gel just fine.

          Agar-Agar would eliminate the need to keep cold to maintain the gel, but would not prevent spoilage. Regardless of gelling agent, these will need refrigeration.
