Pa assured her. “You’ve never failed at anything you tried to do, have you?” “Well, no,” Laura addmitted. “But I…I never tried to teach school.” “You’ve tackled every job that ever came your way,” Pa said. “You never shirked, and you always stuck to it till you did what you set out to do. Success gets to be a habit, like anything else a fellow keeps on doing.” ~ These Happy Golden Years p. 3.

There are some days when I look at a new task that I have to tackle and I worry that it might just be too hard or that I’m not 100% sure how to do it so maybe if I don’t do it things might be better. I tend to be a perfectionist and a worrier at the same time so I feel like if I can’t do something perfect, than maybe I shouldn’t do it at all.

As homesteaders, ranchers, country folks, and even city folks, we face things every day that are new, challenging, and possibly something we don’t want to do. There are jobs that come up before us that feel impossible and it seems easier to just admit we failed before we even try then to try and think about failing.

Why do we have this picture of failure in our mind anyways? Maybe it’s because we tried and failed at something else in the past. Maybe it’s because of laziness, we just don’t even want to try so we know we are bound to fail.

I came across this quote on Pinterest today and it perfectly matchup with with my thoughts about this today.

I just want to challenge you today that whatever you are facing in the near future, that thing that’s coming up that you don’t want to do because you think you might fail…put that away from your mind. For once, focus on success and see what happens. 🙂

  1. This is a quote from the prelude of Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night” video. I fell in love with it the very first time I heard it.

In the prelude, having to do with making an utter failure out of her first attempt to live her dream, she said, “… and I did what any girl would do — I did it all over again.”

    🙂

  2. These Happy Golden Years was my favorite book of the bunch. I re-read I don’t know how many times through the years. It’s simplicity was my inspiration. Thank you for reminding me of it and for giving me the ooomph to move on and up. I love your blog.
