Garden Fresh Salsa

I absolutely love chips and salsa, it’s hands-down my favorite afternoon snack. I’m not a big fan of the premade salsas, I like my tomatoes to be fresh!

Grape Tomatoes

I also love my time. It’s valuable and I only have so much of it. This salsa came from a quick-fix idea that I had earlier this spring when I needed to use up a container of grape tomatoes from the store. Since I just love to grow grape tomatoes in the garden (my very favorite use for them is making Sun Dried Tomatoes!), this is a great easy snack that our family can make in the summer too. I hope that your family will enjoy it as much as we do!

One Minute Garden Fresh Salsa

What You Need:

  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups fresh grape tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (can sub for real onions)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Blending Salsa

Start by washing your tomatoes and placing them in your food processor. I use onion powder in this recipe since I can’t tolerate raw onions but if you can you can add a small amount of onion into the food processor as well. I have the Nutri Ninja which has blender and food processor attachments. Pulse the tomatoes for about 10 seconds.

Adding Spices to Salsa

Pour the tomatoes into a small bowl and add in the remaining ingredients. Mix well. Enjoy immediately or let the salsa sit (covered) on the counter for a little while for the flavors to develop.

Salsa and Chips

This recipe makes about 2 servings…depending on how hungry you are! You could also add in your favorite peppers to the food processor to give it a little different flavor. This salsa is very similar to the “restaurant style” salsa served as an appetizer in many popular restaurants. Start to finish, it only takes about a minute or two to make!

  1. Hi Marissa,
I noticed that you added onion powder as you cannot tolerate raw onion. My son cannot eat raw onion because of certain medication he is on. Is onion powder Ok to use in all recipes instead of raw onion, things do not taste as good without some seasoning and I have wondered what I can use instead. I would appreciate your thoughts and thanks for some wonderful tips and ideas.

      1. Hi Marissa,
Thanks for your reply. I think I will try onion powder and hope my son can tolerate it.

        Many thanks again

        Iris.

  2. I would add real onions, real garlic, peppers and cilantro. Also lime juice not lemon. But this is Texas and thats what’s expected.

  3. I love fresh salsa and this is an easy recipe. Thank you for sharing at Dishing it and Digging it link party.

  4. But it was to be one of the recipes where mint is used…I notice you missed it even in your roasted potatoes recipe…
