Cream Cheese Sour Cream Pinwheels

I first made this recipe almost a decade ago when I was baking up a storm in the kitchen to be able to feed 50 people at a big 25th-anniversary surprise party we had for my parents. One of the things I made was these pinwheels, they were the one food I got the most compliments on!

These are simple, can easily be whipped together and you can make them ahead of time if you don’t want to do them the day of.

Cream Cheese Sour Cream Pinwheels

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt or 1/2 t. garlic powder and 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped black olives
  • 3 or 4 tortillas

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese and mix together with sour cream, garlic salt, onions, cheese, and olives.
  2. Spread onto a flour tortilla and roll up. You may use 3 or 4 tortillas per recipe depending on how thick a layer of spread you put on.
  3. Roll up the tortillas and slice into 1/2 inch pieces.
  4. To prepare ahead of time, just roll up the tortillas and refrigerate, then slice when you are ready to enjoy!

Tips for making homemade Cream Cheese Sour Cream Pinwheels:

  • You can use homemade tortillas for this recipe.
  • Make sure your tortillas are at room temp or you may even want to heat them up a few seconds in the microwave to help them roll up better.
  • You can use Gluten Free Tortillas for a gluten free version.
  • If you are making these in advance, roll the entire tortilla up in plastic wrap and store in the fridge. Only cut into pieces right before serving.
  • Leave out the olives and add sliced or diced ham or smoked turkey for a not quite as frugal version.

  1. This sounds great! I never buy flour tortillas at the store because I always bring home the extras from Mexican restaurants, and I’m always on the look-out for good tortilla recipes.

  2. Yes, I think you probably could. Either add them in or substitute the green onions.
