Ingredients in Classic Egg Salad

  • Eggs. If you already keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge that will be a time saver in this recipe.
  • Mayonnaise. You can use store-bought or Homemade Mayo.
  • Celery. Fresh and crisp celery is best here. Don’t leave it out. It will provide a lot of texture in this salad recipe.
  • Celery salt and Celery Seed. Both spices are a classic for seasoning egg salad.
  • Pepper. Just a dash is needed. You might want a little salt too depending on your tastes.

A classic Egg salad recipe can also be easily added to (see suggestions below). Sure, the simple, basic recipe tastes terrific on its own. But there are also a TON of yummy add-ins you can throw in the recipe to boost the flavor and to make a simple egg salad recipe something special.

  • 1/2 mashed avocado

Egg Salad is a favorite in our household for lunch. If I have any Pita Pockets, the kids absolutely love it when I stuff them with egg salad. It’s like their own less messy version of an egg salad sandwich. They can eat so many of them!

Step By Step Instructions for Making Classic Egg Salad

If you haven’t already boiled and peeled the hard-boiled eggs, you’ll need to do that first. I just make mine in boiling water on the stovetop in a saucepan, but you can also make them in your Instant Pot. Whatever works best for you!

Use an egg slicer to slice the peeled eggs lengthwise, then pick them up and slice them again in the opposite direction. If you don’t have an egg slicer just peel, chop, and dice the eggs into small pieces.

In a medium bowl, gently mix the eggs, the mayonnaise, and the celery.

Add the spices and stir until combined.

Serve on Basic White Bread or a bed of greens.

This recipe serves 2, but you can easily adjust it to make more or less.

  1. When I make egg salad I peel the eggs then run them through my Salad Shooter with the shredding piece on it. Shreds them right up!
