Have you been on the search for the perfect soft sugar cookies recipe? Our family has been making this one for decades!
Soft Sugar Cookies
Yes, in case you were wondering this is the recipe for my purple ribbon sugar cookies:) I love making these soft roll-out cookies. They are simple and so yummy. I normally just make a plain buttercream frosting for the top but this time I wanted to put a little twist on it and make it strawberry. The result was a perfect cookie + frosting that also smelled amazing. Please excuse my random cookie shapes when you get to the cookie pictures….I only have 7 cookie cutters; 2 hearts, a tree, a house, a butterfly, a star, and a maple leaf for some reason!
This recipe will make a large batch so if you don’t need to feed a crowd or don’t plan on freezing any for later, you might want to cut it in half.

Strawberry Frosting Recipe
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 t. vanilla
- 4 c. powdered sugar
- 1/8 c strawberry juice
Mix together all the ingredients for the frosting. For the “strawberry juice” I just took frozen strawberries and thawed them in the microwave. Then I strained the juice out of them and mixed the juice into the frosting.

Snow and cookies… <3
I love your little house metal cookie cutter. Could you tell me where you bought it? Thank you and Happy New Year!
I found it at a little farm store here called Motive Parts. I think they are just local but if you have a farm store nearby I would check it out!
How thin do you roll the dough?
I leave it about 3/8 inch thick. You can really do any thickness which this dough.
My daughter and I made these but did a twist on the icing since she is highly allergic to strawberries. We used pure maple syrup. They are awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Yum, that sounds great!
Sugar Cookies with pink icing
We made these yesterday and they were such a good cookie to make with kids – pretty quick and not too complicated. Thanks! We really liked them with the frosting.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe!
Will these cookies come out as good with Gluten Free flour?
Yes, we make them with gluten free flour all the time and love them!
