Sugar Doughnuts Muffin Mix

Early morning is my favorite time of day (I bet you’d never thought I’d be saying that did you, Mom?). I like to get up early, preferably before everyone else, or with the kids if they get up early, too. It gives me a chance to clean up and do my moms chores that are best done by myself without the kids hanging off my legs.

Right before the rest of the family gets up for the day, I prepare breakfast so everyone is ready by the time they get to the kitchen. It’s just another way for us to have family time together around the breakfast table.

So, of course, I like to make fun things for breakfast and try out new recipes once in a while for something different. My husband usually likes an Egg Sandwich for breakfast made with English Muffin Bread, but when I feel like he should have a little sweet treat, I mix up a batch of these Sugar Doughnuts Muffins.

I keep this recipe as a mix in my pantry, so it’s super easy for me to make in the morning when I get up. These don’t take very long to bake either, so it’s a quick addition to breakfast.

Ingredients in Sugar Doughnuts Muffin Mix

  • All Purpose Flour. You could also use all-purpose gluten-free flour in this recipe as well if you want a gluten free version.
  • Salt and Baking Powder. A bit of flavor booster with the salt and the baking powder is your rising agent here.
  • Sugar. These are sugar doughnuts so they need a bit of sweetness! I have not tried a sugar alternative in this recipe.

All Purpose Gluten Free Flour

Mix all 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Gluten free flour will work with this recipe since the muffins have eggs in them to help bind them together.

  1. These look wonderful. I love cinnamon sugar donuts. So, I’m thinking I’d add cinnamon to the recipe and for the topping. I bet a brown sugar cinnamon mixture on top would be great for a treat or guests.

  2. These sound wonderful. I will have to try these out on my kids. I like to freeze the raw muffin batter and then pull them out of the freezer and right into the oven for nice hot muffins in the morning. It makes portion control easier too since I only bake exactly enough for breakfast. No second helping temptations!

  3. This recipe looks delicious and quick! We are excited to feature your post on the Thoughtful Spot Blog Hop #99 this week! 🙂

  4. I was so excited to make these for my family as a treat. I followed your recipe exactly’ except for adding 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to the batter and sprinkling with cinnamon sugar instead of plain sugar. When they came out of the oven they smelled wonderful! Unfortunately, they tasted very bland. Perhaps this is a great recipe for add ins? But this recipe alone pretty much tasted like nothing.
