Inspired by a trip to Australia, Wallaby Yogurt Company is a unique brand based in California’s Napa Valley that has been around since 1996. They use only premium, local ingredients and gentle cooking methods, resulting in a distinctive flavor. In addition to their Australian-style yogurts and European-style sour cream, they now also offer authentically strained organic Greek yogurt, available in low-fat and fat-free.
Greek yogurt is created when regular yogurt is strained to remove the whey, resulting in a thicker product. It is also tangier and lower in sugar than regular yogurt, as the straining process removes some of the lactose. Traditionally, Greek yogurt is made with real milk and has no added fats or thickeners. Wallaby Yogurt Company holds fast to these standards in their new line of nonfat Greek yogurts. Honestly, I am really amazed at how thick they are!

I will admit that I typically reach for full-fat yogurt, but Wallaby’s organic commitment and accessible pricing are hard to ignore. I like that the yogurt and fruit are kept in separate compartments, allowing me to combine the two at my own discretion. Peach yogurt is one of my favorites (well, peach anything, really!) and their nonfat Greek Yogurt with Peaches did not disappoint. Bits of perfectly ripe peaches are suspended in a sweet, jam-like syrup that smells wonderful and reminds me of summer. I also tried the lemon flavor, which struck me as quite unique. The citrus aroma hits you the moment you peel pack the lid, and it is heavenly. Both flavors are pretty sweet, but pair nicely with the tartness of the Greek yogurt. I would highly recommend Wallaby’s nonfat products to those who are unsure if they like Greek yogurt (especially kids) as it has all the beneficial aspects of traditional Greek yogurt but with a milder flavor and slightly thinner consistency.
Mixed Berries, Raspberry, and Plain are some other Wallaby Organic Greek nonfat yogurt flavors that were unfortunately sold out at my local Whole Foods. I did, however, get a chance to try a few flavors of their low-fat Greek yogurt (Blueberry, Strawberry, and Honey), and they are just as delightful. I particularly loved the honey, as it is thick, dark and amazingly floral.
Wallaby Organic nonfat Greek yogurt contains all the wonderful, healthy bacteria that are characteristic of good yogurt- acidophilus, bifidus, bulgaricus, and thermophilus probiotic cultures. None of their products contain artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, MSG, or gelatin. Everything is local and organic. Wallaby Yogurt Company is definitely a brand that I feel good about supporting!
