The Best Fudge Brownies Recipe
In the last few years since we’ve started eating a little better, we haven’t really been much for desserts. I guess I just don’t have the sweet tooth that I used to possess (and anyone following this blog in the early days knew just how strong that sweet tooth was!
We do still like a little treat on occasion though and today I’m bringing you a simple recipe for the best Fudge Brownies that you will ever taste. Since 3/4 of us can’t have eggs now, these brownies are egg-free.

The Best Fudge Brownies Recipe
What You Need:
- 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour (you can use Gluten Free Flour too!)
- 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/4 cup Butter (or Coconut Butter for dairy free)
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips
- 1/2 cup Applesauce (can be Homemade Applesauce of course)

In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar), until everything is well combined.
In another bowl, melt the butter and chocolate chips together. Add in the applesauce, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until mixed.
Pour the chocolate mixture into the flour mixture and stir together until no dry flour remains.
Butter or grease an 8×8 baking dish very well. Pat the brownie batter into the baking dish. Lately, I’ve been placing a layer of parchment paper into my pans instead of buttering for super easy cleanup and removal. I love the parchment paper from If You Care since we can’t do bleached products. You should be able to find it at most health food stores or you can pick it up on Amazon.
Bake the best Fudge Brownies for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. After you remove the brownies from the oven, let them cool completely before cutting.
The Best Fudge Brownies are perfect on their own (or just slightly warmed up) or you can make an Easy Homemade Caramel Sauce for a special topping. Even a sprinkle of powdered sugar will do. YUM.

These look delicious! I just made the brownies in your book, with the brownie mix, and they were so good! I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical because there were no eggs in the recipe, but they turned out great! I’m going to try these next.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! We still love that recipe 🙂 This recipe is just a little more “fudgy” than that one…so good!
These look sooo good. Like everything on your website.
But, I am in love with table your brownies are sitting on. Is that one of your creations?
If not, where did you find it?
Could spend all day on your site. Keep up the good work.
You are a blessing!
You had me at brownies, ok, truthfully, at fudge then brownies. Wow, great recipe – had to bookmark and share. Dropped by “What’s Making Your Life Awesome?” linky party and you just made my weekend awesome because I have to try these brownies. Thanks! Hope this weekend treats you kindly. 🙂
These look really fudgy! Can’t wait to try!
Have your book Merissa, love it, and I look forward to making these brownies. FYI, did you know a blizzard is predicted for you next week?? Take good care up there.
I did, and we are quite excited to hopefully see some snow for the first time this season! 🙂
Brownies are my comfort food! These look good, esp. the addition of applesauce. Less guilt! Visiting from Small Moms Victories party.
Interesting that there are no eggs in this recipe. Sounds delicious and very chocolatey! Thanks for sharing, Janet

I meant to bake my cookies again this year but tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I haven’t done it.so I was checking my email and I always save your emails and what should I find but your brownie receipt. So now I am here with a quart of milk and all these yummies. Thank you. Tomorrow I am going to make the carmal sauce and the hot chocolate mix. I really enjoy all that you send. So I want to wish you and your family all God’s special blessings now and always. I think you have a special place in this world.
Hi Merrisa!
Hope you can suggest another ingredient in place of the applesauce. I live in the Philippines in a small city down south so there’s no hope for a bottle of applesauce. Thank you.
I have heard a mashed banana instead work good as well… Never tried it myself though.
This recipe looks so good! I like using parchment paper for baking, too, but I haven’t seen the unbleached version around here, so thanks for the link.
These are the best brownies I think I’ve ever had! Thanks so much!
