You can abke longer for crunchier granola or the 10 minutes for soft granola.
Place on two cookie sheets (line with parchment paper for easy clean up) and bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 350.
Remove from oven and add raisins or other dried fruit of your choice—cool and place in air-tight containers. I keep ours in the fridge or in a jar on the countertop.
If you like your granola crunchy, you will need to stir it during the baking time and increase the baking time. We like ours soft, so we only bake it for 10 minutes.
Just wanted to pop in and say this is by far the best granola recipe! I make it every other week as my whole family loves it! Its great in yogurt or by itself or bowl of cereal. I add almonds and vanilla extract!! Yummy

My favorite is the Cranberry Almond Granola on The Prudent Homemaker’s website. I sub brown sugar and a bit of water for the honey because I just don’t like the taste of honey in granola. I just started making granola and I am loving having that beautiful canning jar full of goodness in my pantry.
So.. Your recipe is almost exactly like our recipe ..
I do go a little crazy with seeds tho..
Along with unsweetened shredded coconut, we add .. sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, either walnuts or pecans .. pumpkin seeds!
Sometimes I use Rapadura sugar.. are you familar with it? Great for granola – also use … goji berries when I can get them. Lets see.. molasses! or maple syrup! olive oil or coconut oil!
Love your recipe! Thank you for posting it. My husband and I have currently embarked on a new lifestyle and we are looking for ways to save money and eat healthier. I appreciate your website very much.
Yum! And aren’t forgiving recipes nice? I like the simplicity too–I normally stock all of these ingredients.
I am excited to find your website! My mother made the most incredible granola in the world when me and my siblings were growing up. Unfortunately, my mother and I are estranged now, so getting her recipe isn’t possible. Your recipe is very similar to hers and I am very grateful to have found your website. I look forward to exploring your site even further!
Hi I make home made Granola for my adult children( I wish I’d done it when they were small but I had no idea how to make it then) I get all the ingredients from our local health shop, so it’s a very special recipe as the ingredients aren’t cheap, but my family love it. So it’s worth it I try and make it every couple of months.
I add various nuts dried fruits and shredded coconut – sunflower and home ground flax seeds some dried apricots or prunes depending on what they fancy – and the base is usually 1.5 kg oats 1/4tsp salt tsp honey, 1.5 cups coconut oil and 1/4 cup vegetable oil a huge table spoon cinnamon and good sprinkling ground all spice too if too dry add a small amount of milk or extra coconut oil, they don’t like it sweet, so I’m careful what I put in -I usually make 4 quart mason jars at a time- so I have to get my huge pot out but it’s worth it because they love it so much they normally add Greek yogurt to eat it or semi skimmed milk maybe some sliced banana if they need the potassium- this is a recipe to play with it comes out different every time but always gets tasty results – sorry long reply ❤️
I got my granola recipe from a book, Nitty Gritty Foods, back in the 70’s. Here is the recipe….6 Cups oats, 1 cup wheat germ, 1 cup sunflower seeds, 1 cup sesame seeds, 1 cup slivered almonds, 1 1/2 cups coconut. Dump 1/2 cup oil in a large pan and add the other ingredients. Stir to coat with oil and brown. Add 1/2 cup honey and 1 tsp. vanilla and stir thoroughly. You can pour it into a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, but I never do. I like it best not baked. If you decide to bake it be sure to stir frequently. Let it cool and break into spoon size pieces and store. I also add other items to it depending on how I feel or what sounds good at the time….dried bananas, apples, peaches, raisens, walnuts, craisens, etc. These I usually add after taking the granola off the stove or sometimes I add them at the time I am eating the granola.
Hi Little House Living,
I just made the granola. It is awesome! Funny though, I just started eating it and was thinking about how to store it. In the fridge I thought would cause the coconut oil to lump and get hard. I wasn’t sure how to, or what to store the granola in either. Anyway, I thought I better go back to my email and check how to store the granola only to discover I did not bake the granola and I already added the raisins. LOL Anyway, I am now putting it on a cookie sheet and going to bake it just like you said to in the recipe. LOL Thank you for this recipe. I like lots of recipes that use honey instead of sugar. God Bless.
Oh no! Well at least you caught the mistake and have a yummy granola now 🙂
What could I use in place of coconut oil ?
Any mild vegetable oil should do in the place of coconut.
My rwcipe is vwry similar. For a cruncher granola without stirring just turn off the oven and allow it to cool in the oven.
Your recipe calls for pecans but someone in my family is highly allergic to all nuts. So I’m wondering it the granola would still be good with dried fruit?? Would one fruit be better than another??
Pecans are optional in this recipe, you can add anything you think your family will like 🙂

I’m so glad you like it!
Eager to try, sure looks good
I feel silly for asking and maybe I missed it…but what kind of oats? Quick? Old fashioned? Steel cut? I’m probably overthinking it…but that’s just who I am as a person. I’m very excited to try the recipe!!!
Just regular old fashioned oats for this recipe 🙂
Doing granola for the third time. Second time with this recipe, and second time it tastes burnt as the first time with this recipe. How do I fix it? these were supposed to be gifts for Christmas
If it tastes burnt it was cooked too long and not stirred around on the pan enough while baking.
