Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

The other day my husband told me, “I want biscuits, can you make biscuits?” I laughed, of course, I can! And you can too by following this simple recipe. Skip the canned biscuits from the store and go fresh next time. You can also freeze these for future meals.

P.S. These smell soooo good fresh out of the oven.

Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

What you need:

  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 t. sugar
  • 1/4 t. baking soda
  • 3 T. butter
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Picture of the ingredients. For reference, I use turbinado sugar and buttermilk powder in this recipe. You can use any sugar and fresh buttermilk.

Mix together the dry ingredients.

Add in the butter and the buttermilk. Mix well.

Knead a few times until you have a nice dough.

Flatten the dough out with your fingers. It should be about 1/2 inch thick.

Use a biscuit cutter to make the biscuit shapes. I don’t have a biscuit cutter so I just use a glass. You should be able to get 9 biscuits out of this recipe.

Place them on a baking sheet at bake at 350F for about 10 minutes until brown on top.

  3. I made your homemade sausage and EVERYONE loved it!! I’ll NEVER go back to storebought! Can’t wait to try these biscuits! Thanks for sharing so much of your life with us!

  4. when would I freeze them? After I bake them or throw them in the freezer and just bake them when i need them?

      1. Do you think this recipe would work with rice flour? I recently learned that my husband has celiac disease and am trying to do adjustments so I can keep making foods we both love. Also, gluten free pizza is way to expensive.

        1. I haven’t tried it yet so I’m not sure. An all purpose gluten free flour might be best although they still may be a little crumbly since they don’t have any other binders in them.

  5. I love this recipe! I make it way more often than I should haha! Today my hub suggested that I try folding and rolling and folding and rolling and so on several times to get them more flaky, so I did and they were AMAZING and super layered and delicious. Thank you!

    1. Could I ask where the recipe for your homemade sausage is. I have searched and searched to no avail. Thanks for your trouble.

  6. I make these all the time the only difference I leave out the sugar for flour turns to sugar and I do not need that being a diabetic and my family and friends love them.
