Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bread
My husband calls this Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bread a cookie in a loaf. It’s a very yummy recipe that works great for a mid-afternoon snack or dessert. The cream cheese adds a little extra tang and super creaminess to the bread.
This is also a wonderful bread to make around the holiday time to share with friends and neighbors because who doesn’t love chocolate chips?
Ingredients in Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bread
- Butter. Butter gives this recipe so much flavor!
- Cream Cheese. The essential ingredient in this quick bread. Cream Cheese helps it to stay nice and moist and also gives it a little bit of a tang.
- Sugar. A decent amount of sugar is needed, but remember that this recipe makes 2 large loaves or 4 small loaves.
- Eggs, Baking Powder, and Salt.
- Vanilla. I use homemade Vanilla Extract but you can also use store-bought.
- All Purpose Flour. You can also use gluten free flour in this recipe to make it gluten free! No need for added binders either since this recipe already contains eggs.
- Milk. Also helps to keep this recipe moist. Only a little is needed.
- Chocolate Chips. The best part of this bread! I think semi-sweet or mini chocolate chips work the best but you can always experiment with different kinds.
Instructions for Making Cream Cheese Bread
Mix together all the ingredients except for the flour and the milk. Then add 1 cup of flour and 1/8 c. milk. Mix well, then add in the second cup of flour and the rest of the milk. Whipping this dough mixture with the hand mixers isn’t completely necessary but it will give it a slightly less dense texture. It tastes good either way!
Pour the mixture into 2 greased loaf pans or 4 mini loaf pans.
Bake at 350F for about 30 minutes for mini loaves or 40-45 minutes for a big loaf. This recipe will make 4 mini loaves or 1 to 2 large loaves, depending on the size of your loaf pan.
Yum! I took this recipe over to all the neighbors on Memorial Day for a little treat. I’ve also given it away as a gift around the holidays to friends and family. This is one of those perfect dessert bread recipes. It’s light enough for an afternoon treat and perfectly sweet enough for a little something after a meal.

Would this work with gluten free flour? It looks fantastic. I am going to have to try it.
I think it should. It may end up being slightly denser but you could try adding a bit more baking powder.
Omigosh… I am finally trying this! Got the corn off the fields. The rye planted. And, even though it’s late, I was going thru my bookmarks, and this looked so good. Been waiting to try this for a while. All I have on hand is spelt flour, organic and sprouted. So, I just doubled the egg, baking soda ((instead of powder), and salt. Hopefully that will help keep it from being so heavy from the spelt. It’s in the oven now…. Looks good! Will post to let you know how it turns out. I am so excited!

Is the “t.” for teaspoon or for tablespoon? Regarding the measurement of the vanilla and baking powder
Lowercase t = teaspoon. Uppercase T = Tablespoon

I would recommend refrigerating it.
Not sure what happened. The batter was like dough and never cooked all the way through. I checked the ingredient list several times and everything was as listed. Super disappointed with my results. 😢
