Crock Pot BBQ Meatballs

I love making meatballs for an easy, but hearty winter meal. I usually make ours with a sauce that I make from chicken broth but the other day I decided to throw some different ingredients together and try something new instead. The result is our newest favorite meal!

Crock Pot BBQ Meatballs

This recipe is truely delicious and so simple! You could use a store boughten bottle of BBQ sauce but that just wouldn’t be quite the same as this from-scratch version! The sauce we make for these Crock Pot BBQ Meatballs makes them taste sweet and fresh. Plus it’s so easy to throw all the ingredients together in the crock pot and have a warm meal at the end of the day.

These meatballs only need a few ingredients and take very little effort. They make a great hearty meal when paired with pasta or rice and a side of fresh steamed veggies.

Yield – 4 servings

Preparation Time – 10 minutes

Cooking Time – 6 Hours

Ingredients

  • 20 Meatballs ( You can learn how to create Make Ahead Meatballs here!)
  • 16 ounces (2 cups) Strained Tomatoes (Home Canned Tomatoes work great!)
  • 1/4 cup Onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/3 cup Brown or Raw Sugar

Directions

  • If you aren’t using pre-made meatballs, make sure your meatballs are cooked.
  • Place the cooked meatballs in the crock pot. Add in all the other ingredients.
  • Cook on low for 6 hours, stirring occasionally. Turn the crock pot off or on warm when the meatballs start to look like they are getting too done.
  • Serve plain or over pasta or rice.

These are making my mouth water just looking at the pictures again! Such a simple recipe to put together but such a tasty outcome. Definitely put these on your menu plan in the coming weeks! If you wanted to make these up completely ahead of time, simply add all the ingredients (including the cooked meatballs) into a freezer bag and store in the freezer until you are ready to put in the crock pot!.

What do you think…will you try these Crock Pot BBQ Meatballs? What are your favorite side dishes for meatballs?

  1. These sound wonderful! I am pinning it for later–after this big snow storm we are getting that makes it quite possible to lose power today. I love the homemade sauce recipe. After being allergic to all but 14 foods for so long I have a hard time liking things like bottled BBQ sauce. I like a meat dish like this with mashed potatoes but that probably comes back to being allergic to potatoes for over 20 yearsl

  2. These sound so yummy! Do you think you could cook the meatballs in the crockpot if you set it on high? (Trying to save steps here LOL)

    1. All I do for that is cook the (cooked) meatballs in the slow cooker in just chicken broth for a few hours. Then I remove the broth and put it on the stove and bring to a simmer and mix in a small amount of starch/water to thick it up just a bit to make a gravy. Then we eat that with the meatballs over pasta 🙂

  3. I echo Lana’s comments above about food allergies. I have sensitivities to additives and spices in food and to many foods. Love spaghetti and meat balls but have NEVER baked the meat balls. Always broiled them. I love the recipe for ready made meat balls and I could make those without the spices you added. Obviously they taste good since you use them in many ways. Thanks for the ideas.

  4. We’ve been exploring more and more meals made in the Crock Pot are loving it. Never thought of making Meatballs in there! I will be trying this! Thanks

  5. I want to pin this recipe on Pinterest (looks yummy!) but it says that the URL isn’t valid. Is there a way to fix it so I can pin it. Thanks!
