As we start getting closer to when we hope to move I’ve started cleaning. And cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning. So much in fact I’ve come up with a new little system.
My house is usually pretty organized. I don’t like having extra clutter and I believe in the phrase, “A place for everything and everything in it’s place.”
I’m not quite ready to reveal what our plans are for our new house but let’s just say I need to get rid of quite a bit of stuff before we move. Like alot. So I figured I better get started now. Cleaning out, I’ve realized, is actually more than just going through a room and picking out what I no longer need. No, I’ve figured out that it’s all a mind game. Here’s what I’ve been doing to combat the cleaning out mind game!
Cleaning out now, and later. Right now I’m making a sweep of the whole house and pulling out things that are garbage and things that can be sold or given away. Not just a few things here and there, I’m actually deep cleaning out each cupboard, cabinet, nook, and cranny. I start in one corner of the room and moving all the way around it pulling out everything as I go and separating the stuff to sell and garbage. I’ve honestly been surprised of the amount of things that need thrown away that I’ve been keeping! Ok so I’m doing this now, and I plan to do it again, and again before we move. My reasoning behind this is that right now I can go through and see what I’m not using and needs to be gotten rid of. In a month or so I can go through again and see what I still haven’t used and then get rid of it. I feel like doing it this way I will be able to get rid of quite a bit of stuff!
Secondly, I’ve been seriously re-evaluating our needs. I plan to go over this topic in much more detail in the coming months. I’m looking through my closet, my kitchen, and other areas to see what I really need and what I have way too much excess on and don’t really need. This one is going to be an interesting process and I’m looking forward to seeing what I have left when I’m done!
