My mom sent me this pdf file this morning showing the average cost of food in US households. You can figure out exactly what your average would be buy using the chart on the page. I was actually quite shocked at the “averages” for a household of 2 adults on the Thrifty Plan we should be spending $80 a week on groceries! That is the lowest figure in the chart and keeps going to the Liberal Plan in which case to be average we would have to spend $158.60 a week on groceries! If you are a regular reader you know that me and hubby are currently spending $100 a month on groceries(and it’s not even been a challenge!) Now I realize that most households don’t coupon and can and preserve like we do but I really can’t imagine spending $320 – $640 a month on groceries! We could never afford that!
