If you’re into prepping, working towards living off the grid, or if you just love camping, finding a great stove to cook on that doesn’t use electricity (and works well!) that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg can be a challenge.
One of my goals after our October Blizzard was to be better prepared for the next time. I want to be able to cook, heat, and be sufficient in a time of need without any electricity. I’m glad that I made this my goal since the power already seems to be pretty *iffy* at our new house. Many of you suggested that I look into some kind of rocket stove for our winter emergency survival kit and that’s how I discovered the EcoZoom Stove. The EcoZoom Stove can cook with wood, charcoal, or dried biomass (aka, dried cow patties!). The Versa is EcoZoom’s most popular emergency preparedness model in the US while still being a great option for camping. This model features an abrasion resistant and durable ceramic combustible chamber with a ten centimeter in diameter vertical section that forces the gases to mix with the flame, which decreases the harmful emissions and adds a refractory metal liner to the combustion chamber that protects the ceramic insulation. All of this will increase the life of your stove, and improve the combustion efficiency. There are also hinged combustion chamber doors that make an easy transition from wood to charcoal fuels. The Versa also features the main combustion doors as well as the damper door with reinforced metal frames and hinges that securely close the doors and regulate airflow. The stovetop of the Versa is made from durable reformulated 6 prong cast iron that improves heat transfer for all pans including round bottom pans and woks.
The Versa ships via FedEx for free, and weighs 26.75 pounds. This is great for both camping and emergency preparedness, making it sort of a two-fer. You’ll be set up for both, and there’s nothing better than that. If you have a prepper on your Christmas list, or you want one for yourself, you can purchase this model for just $129 on the EcoZoom website. Not a bad price to pay for a non-electric stove.
I wanted to make sure whatever we got I would be able to use myself without the help of my hubby or anyone else in-case I am snowed in at home alone. Check out my video below to see how easy it really is to set up and cook with the EcoZoom Versa Stove.
I really enjoy using this rocket wood stove and I know I’m going to have to have some cookouts in the backyard even when I’m not snowed in without electricity! It’s simple and easy to use and it’s not huge so it doesn’t take up much room to store, and in a house without closets that’s a good thing for us! This is a great addition to our winter emergency survival kit. (Watch for my post coming up on that very soon and see how this stove fits in with our kit!)
Are you into prepping? If so, do you have a rocket wood stove in your kit? If so, what kind is it? Have you tried the Versa? Let me know in the comments!
