Sell 3 things on Craigslist/Swap and Sell/Newspaper.
This week find at least 3 things that you don’t need and list them for sale where ever your local free ads can be listed. Craigslist is always free, Swap and Sell is the free classifieds section of your local Freecycle, and some newspapers allow you to list free items if they are under a certain dollar amount. (Locals, we can list 1 thing each week for free in the Rapid City Journal if it’s under $250.) A goal that you might want to reach for is to sell 3 things each week that you don’t need. A little extra money and you get rid of things that you don’t really need around your house!
Replace 1 bulb with a CFL bulb.
Replacing one lightbulb with a CFL bulb can save you over $40 in electricity over the lifetime of the lightbulb. That’s because it takes 75% less energy and it produces less heat when you are using the bulb, thus saving you money on heating costs in the summer. CFL bulbs cost about $1. Invest in one this week and maybe one next week and one the week after….until your whole house is changed over.
Use 1/4 less laundry detergent.
Instead of filling up that detergent lid to the fill line, add a little less. That means if your bottle of detergent usually does 32 loads of laundry it will now do 40 loads. If your goal price is to pay .06 per load, or about 1.99 per 32 load bottle that you buy, then buy reducing your detergent use to 75% off what you normally use that brings it down to .05 per load, per my little example above. In the end it will save you from buying about 1 bottle of detergent per week(if you do an average of 5 loads per week)
