Are you looking to make your children a real treat this summer? This special recipe for Homemade Fudgesicles was passed down to me from my grandma and uses real cream.

Homemade Fudgesicles

Homemade Fudgesicles

This recipe is special to me because it was given to me by my grandma several years ago. My Grandma farmed, and so everything she made was made from scratch. She didn’t often write down her recipes because she made them up as she went along. A pinch of that here and a little of this there(hmmm….she may have passed that trait down…lol!)

She did, however, write down her recipe for fudgesicles for me. After I got married, I made them for the first time, and wow, they are amazing! This is one of those recipes that will never be good for you but are one amazing treat to enjoy every so often.

I made a batch yesterday with some farm fresh cream and milk…just like Granny probably used to make them. I’m so thankful she left me this recipe before passing away. It’s a true gem.

I hope you enjoy this recipe! The store version doesn’t even hold a candle to this homemade version

If you make it let me know what you think!

Ingredients in Homemade Fudgesicles

What you need:

  • Milk. This should be whole milk, not lowfat milk or nonfat milk. This is a real treat, and you want it to taste that way! You can also use unsweetened coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, or any other milk alternative.
  • Cream. Heavy cream is really the star in this recipe! While other fudgesicle recipes might use store bought chocolate pudding mix as their base, this one is the real deal.
  • Sugar. Regular cane sugar is what is used in this recipe. I’ve not yet tried it with an alternative.
  • Salt. Just a pinch of salt will really help up the flavor in this homemade fudgesicle recipe!
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. It’s amazing how little cocoa you really need for these chocolatey fudgesicles. I get mine here.
  • Cornstarch. This is your thickener. You could also use arrowroot, potato starch, or tapioca starch depending on what you have on hand.
  • Vanilla Extract. This is optional. My granny did not add any to hers but you could add a bit for a little different flavor if you wanted to.

How Long Do Fudgesicles Last?

Fudgesicles will last quite a while (months) if stored in the original container in the freezer. However, they will eventually develop ice crystals and won’t have a very good texture.

  20. For just a little surprise on the backside add a couple tablespoons of sriracha. You’ll have cold chocolate then a little heat.

  21. These look wonderful. I will try this recipe. My mother cooked like your grandmother. She taught me to cook that way. But my sister just didn’t get it. So before her wedding day, she followed momma around the kitchen and wrote down as many recipes as she could stopping at the “pinches” and “dabs” to make a guess at the measure needed. 🙂 She kept it up through the years and we all enjoy the recipes now. Thanks for sharing this yummy one.

My fudge sickles are now in the freezer. I have two concerns in how I made them, the first of which is the temperature. There is a difference between warm and bubbles. At what temperature did you add the cornstarch. Also, do we keep the saucepan on medium while adding the cornstarch. I made my own mistake in forgetting to add a little liquid to the cornstarch before adding it to the mixture and had to spend a few minutes taking out the lumps. My grandchildren are anxiously waiting for the results.

  23. Dear Merissa, i feel the sadness of the damaged garden. A couple of things come to mind, lightning puts nitrogen into the soil/plants. Also that in the midst of loss there is someone who will share and become a friend/ministry/blessing to your life. For what you give daily to others, just claim what you have stored up in heaven. And my last comment is to say that sometimes our gardens can offer surprises. I thoroughly enjoy your online efforts, though I don’t cook much any more but I love the simplicity of what you are offering. Many blessing for you and your family!

  24. I just ordered the molds from Amazon and they are to be here tomorrow. My grandchildren will be here Saturday so I am looking forward to making this treat for them. I have two who don’t like chocolate. Maybe I should order 2 molds. Thank you for the recipe.

I made these yesterday for a birthday celebration. All who ate them said they were delicious. We have a couple family members who cannot have dairy (including me) so I am going to try with alternative milks. Of course I had to use milk and cream from the grocery as we don’ t have a cow. Thank you for another great recipe.

This recipe is so much better than store-bought fudgesicles! My family loves them. Thank you for sharing!

  27. God Morning! I made these and the children liked them until they got to the middle. It was very “ice crystal-ish”. What did I do wrong?

    1. The middle inside? Was the mixture mixed well enough so everything was incorporated? Perhaps it didn’t freeze quick enough and started to separate?
