I will be honest, I love to find creative crafts to do with my children but some days I’m just tired and uninspired. I’ve often checked out the monthly craft box deliveries that I’ve seen featured online, but most of them contained simple little things that I could easily put together with random craft supplies that we already have. Nothing that truly sparked my imagination.
And then I stumbled across Green Kid Crafts. Their monthly discovery boxes are filled with fun, earth-friendly materials that can create up to 8 different projects. (Plus some, as we discovered!)
What does earth-friendly mean to Green Kid Crafts?
- Our boxes are 100% recycled. We use recycled labels and envelopes for shipping.
- We integrate eco-awareness into our box themes as much as possible.
- We minimize packaging and printing and use recycled materials.
- We bundle materials using plant-based, compostable clear bags.
- We avoid craft foams and plastics.
- We ensure supplies can be composted, recycled and/or reused whenever possible.
- We give back. At least 1% of sales is donated to environmental organizations through our membership in 1% for the Planet.
And if you are wondering…here is a little bit about the thought process behind the Green Kid Crafts Discovery Boxes.
Developed by teachers, crafty moms and STEAM experts (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) to support key developmental skills for kids ages 3-10, our products celebrate creativity with craft projects and activate thinking, questioning, inquiring, and original creation as we guide children through fun science experiments.
Their goal is to help our children create projects that they can be proud of, things that will help encourage active play, help stimulate a thinking brain, discover the world around them, and to learn to be considerate to people and nature.
We had a chance to check out and play with the Robot Workshop box over the last few weeks and I have to say, my preschooler loved it! The first project that we created was the little Art Bot who crawled all over a piece of paper with his little markers for legs and drew us fun pictures. After playing with this creation for a while, my little boy took the hexbug out of the art-bot he made and created a maze for him with some books. He stayed busy with this project for hours…so long in fact that the batteries died on the little hexbug and we’ve already had to replace them twice because it’s become an on-going game!
I know that these discovery boxes will be the perfect activities for us during the snowy and rainy days to come and we simply love how creative the projects are and how they can turn into open-ended play for our children.
