Thanks to Kendra for providing this guest post today. Enjoy! ~ M
Despite my greatest desire to be a full time stay at home mom, I still have to work a couple days a week. One day expecially, I come home dragging everything that’s left of me. On those days, the last thing I want to do is cook. So, I’ve learned how to “crock pot”!
I usually put this together the night before, and then put it on in the morning.
What You Need:
- 1 Package of hot dogs or brats
- 1# of Bacon
- 2 Cans of Pork and Beans
- 1 Can of Black Beans
- 1 Can of Kidney Beans
- 1 Can of Northern or Lima Beans
- 1 Cup chopped Onion
- 1/4 Cup of chopped Bell, or Sweet Banana Pepper
- 1/2 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of Molasses
- 2 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Mustard
Slice the hot dogs or brats in 1/4″ pieces and brown in a skillet.
The bacon needs to be cooked and crumbled. Or, if you are lazy like me, use scissors to cut the bacon into 1″ pieces and cook that way. If you pre-cut your bacon, make sure you have picked the pieces apart. You will also need to stir the pieces often to prevent having a mixture of raw and burnt pieces. (Not fun at all)
“Bacon; snitched by big and little kids for hundreds of years.”
Chop the onions and peppers and and mix in all other ingredients. Stir everything together and cook for 4-6 hours on low.
In the photo below, I added a cup of water because I would be gone nine hours that day. So it does look a little soupy in the photo.
Hubby recommends serving with fresh baked corn bread!
“Kendra is a busy wife and hopefully/someday mommy. She blogs at A Proverbs 31 Wife where she shares inspiration for wives. Touching subjects like loving your man, housekeeping, making use of the kitchen and crafting. She grew up in rural Ohio and now lives in the city, where she and her hubby are working hard to save and buy that two-story farm house in the country.”
Looks awesome!
This looks wonderful! I can hardly wait to try it! I have a recipe for crock pot scalloped potatoes if you are interested.
BTW- I love this site! I check it out daily! Nice work!
Have a great day,
