There was a new article recently posted on Yahoo about the foods with the highest price rises in 2011. In the top 5 are:
- Fats and Oils
Nuts: Being that I have to stay away from these I haven’t noticed this price hike as much as others. However I have noticed that coupons for nuts have decreased and I haven’t seen a great sale on them in a while.
Eggs: Have you noticed fewer and fewer $0.99 egg sales lately? I have. Even though the price of chicken food has risen slightly this year, since the cost of eggs and chicken meat have gone up as well it makes it even more worth it to think about owning your own hens.
Apples: I haven’t really noticed a price increase on these (the article says 12%). I have noticed them being on sale less but that just means a shorter window to stock up on them! (You can can apple pie filling or dry them!)
Potatoes: Potato prices have been up this year thanks to crop losses. Normally the lowest I’ve seen potatoes go is $1.99 for 10lbs and they generally stay that price throughout the peak season. I saw a couple sales on them but not as many as normal and they didn’t stay at a low price.
Fats and Oils: According to the article, soybeans went up in price this year. I don’t think I’ve ever boughten soybean oil before so I haven’t noticed this one. Have you?
So have you noticed the prices of these products go up this year? What foods do you think went up in price? (Personally I think dairy products should have made the top of this list!)
