  1. What a good collection! I do not like box cakes at all..the few times I used them was when the kids had birthday parties(years ago!) and all they did was eat the frosting. The cake usually was left behind in a puddle of melted ice cream..so it didn’t matter if it went to the pigs! Thanks for organizing the cakes for us,Merissa!

    1. I’ll be doing the slow cooker chocolate one. Called by various names like Brownie Pudding and Upside Down Cake, this basic recipe has been around for at least 100 yrs. I’ve been reading hundreds of online very early 20th century cookbooks, and I’ve seen it in a 1908 cookbook. I think they were a transition from the very popular steamed puddings of the day when many people did not yet have a reliable oven.

This time of yr., I love the crockpot pudding cakes. I have recipes for a banana caramel one that we love and a recipe for an orange date one that I want to try. They don’t use eggs or dairy, so great for allergies and vegan diets.

Great list of yummy cakes here!

  2. You just can’t beat homemade cake! I love this round up! Especially how they are all categorized! Super helpful! I need to try some of these out! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thanks, Merissa!
I just added a couple to my Pepperplate recipe book! I am looking forward to making the Bailey’s Irish cream Cake! My husband is going to be so pumped! 🙂

  4. Hi, thanks for all this great information. I missed the rhubarb cake. When I click on it it comes up lemonade cake. Love rhubarb and would like to make it in a cake for something new and different.
    Thanks again.

  5. Cinnamon coffee cake for sure! With hot vanilla chai tea..yum. By the way I made your banana cake for our “dessert Friday” and it was a huge hit. Love your recipes.

  6. We are trying to cook & bake more from scratch. I’ll definitely be pinning this for later! Thanks for linking up at the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop! We hope you join us again next week!

  7. I’ve never understood the whole box cake mix idea, most cakes I make only have 4 or 5 ingredients anyway! Looks like I could expand my repertoire with this collection.

  8. I really hope there’s a lot of birthdays and special occasions this year to try all these out Merissa. Now my only problem is which one to start with, oh and the fact that I can’t bake a cake to save my life. Well a girl can dream and maybe I can convince some of my baking friends to make them for me 😉

  9. Hope you are having a great week and thanks so much for sharing your awesome post with us at Full Plate Thursday. We look forward to seeing you again real soon!
