Yep, I totally spaced posting this yesterday! So here is our local meals from the last 2 nights. On 8/9 we had pasta with a homemade tomato sauce that I cooked up with local tomatoes and onions that I purchased from the farmer’s market. We also had some slice cucumber on the side that was from my mom’s garden.
And yesterday I ended up being in such a hurry I didn’t have time to fix much so we ended up with homemade chicken noodle soup made from local chicken and chicken broth from the Hutterite colony.
Total cost for local foods for both meals: $2
Buying Local on a Budget Tip #2:
Eat in season. I paid way too much for these tomatoes for the meal we had above and even though they were very good, the tomato season really doesn’t start for about another 2 weeks so I overpaid. Keep track of what fruits and veggies are in season in which months and only purchase them in their correct season, otherwise you will overpay!
