We did a little land hunting over the weekend and it was quite the experience. The land we checked out was 10 miles from the nearest town(which is super tiny) and 40 miles from a decent size town. We weren’t too sure on the directions so we called the Realtor ahead of time. He assured us it would be easy to find even though it was not fenced it we should be able to see the survey stakes. We headed out on our adventure. (driving well over an hour from where we are at now) We passed through the small town and headed further north, watching for road signs. We finally pulled over at the correct milage from the town and searched for the right road to turn onto. I somehow spotted the road sign which was nothing more than a weathered old piece of wood, buried in the tall grass. We turned.
8 miles later we still hadn’t come across the land. I re-read the directions, “Go 7 miles and turn at the gate…” we drove back and forth on the road, trying to figure out which gate. We finally picked one and headed onto the wide open prairie on a 2 track trail…in our car. After driving in the field for a good 45 miles we still hadn’t spotted a sign of the land. We called the realtor back and asked for better directions… he said, “Did you cross 3 cattle guards?” Yes. “Did you go through the gate.” Yes. We asked which gate it was though, we might have gotten it wrong. He replied, “Well I don’t know, I’ve never been there.”
I gave hubby a look and we turned around on the trail and headed back for home. Not quite the experience we were hoping to gain from the day but an experience nonetheless!
This week we are using up our Bountiful Baskets produce so we’ve got a few different meals planned than normal.
