How many times have you been stuck wandering around the house looking for a receipt for something with the upc in hand for a product that you wanted to send in a rebate for? I know I’m guilty of doing that! Remember those Pepperidge Farms Baked Crackers that had a Try Me Free peelie on them a few months back. Yeah, I ended up buying those 3 times because I kept losing the receipts! Then when I finally got the check in the mail I lost that too! Only to find it a day later in a stack of other things to take to the bank that I had supposedly organized!
Part of my goal this month is to get things organized and cleaned up and out in my house. My new rule is if I’m not using it then its taking up space that I could be using for something I do need! For today’s topic though I will stick with talking about organizing shopping trips and coupons and rebates.
Coupons: I know have a file in my file cabinet for unsorted coupons. I want to go through it every couple days and sort out or cut out the coupons that get thrown in there. I used to be able to keep up with having my coupons all sorted out the minute I got them/printed them. Now I have stacks of coupons all over that need sorted. So while they are waiting for that I decided to put them all in a file folder so I at least know where they are! If you have been a reader here for a while you know that I keep a binder for my coupons. I think this system works very well, I just will always need to have a huge purse! But that’s not such a bad thing is it? You can read more about my binder and my sorting methods HERE.
Rebates: Also now in my file cabinet I have a pocket for rebate papers and receipts. When I print off a rebate I fill out the form, put it in an envelope and stick it back in there so it’s ready to go. After I buy the product I find the envelope right away, put in the receipt and/or the upc and get it sent of right away. No more losing money trying to find a receipt I lost for the item that I bough for the rebate! This system also works well for my Menards rebate receipts because I like to send in 2 weeks at a time to save a stamp.
Grocery Shopping: I’ve mentioned my method for this before. I ALWAYS make a list before I go to the store. I write my list on a little envelope and then I stick all the coupons I want to use inside. Sometimes if I have time I even sort out the coupons in the order I will find the product in the store. Then while I am shopping I pull out the coupon for the item when I find the item and put it in a separate place. That way when I get the checkout I have my coupons sorted and ready to go for the things I am buying. It takes a little extra effort but it’s worth it!
So that’s my plan of action anyways. I hope it gives you some ideas or inspiration on how you can stay more organized with all this couponing madness! I know it can be overwhelming at times but don’t you think it’s worth it?
Do you have a thrifty tip for me? Fill out the form HERE and tell me about it! I will be picking an entry this week to win $100 in coupons! Enter as many times as you want just make sure you send in a different tip each time!
