Prepare Your Family for Survival
When we hear that someone is going through a disaster or emergency situation, we automatically assume that means flooding, sink holes, hurricanes or other natural disasters. Although in most cases those natural disasters are the sole source of a families sad misfortune, they have caused us to overlook the other types of disasters or emergency situations an individual or family can experience. Sickness, disability, loss of a job, these are all disasters that we as people don’t always take into consideration as we go about our daily lives. As such, we don’t always prepare for them either. With personal disasters, natural disasters and other emergency situations becoming all too frequent in the world we live in, it has never been a better time to start preparing ourselves for whatever comes our way. We can do this by coming up with a plan to help see us through these situations as well as starting an emergency food pantry in our homes, two things that are very valuable regardless of what sort of situation has befallen your family.
Blogger, founder of Food Storage Mom and Author of Prepare Your Family For Survival: How to Be Ready for Any Emergency or Disaster Situation, Linda Loosli has written a spent the last 50 years researching and teaching on emergency preparedness. Linda’s wish for her readers and follows is simply that they never have to experience hunger or thirst, no matter what kind if emergency situation the might find themselves in. How to Be Ready for Any Emergency or Disaster Situation breaks down the complexity of food preparedness and is divided into two parts:
- Part I When the Lights Go Out: How to prepare for Power Outages, Water Shortages, and Food Scarcity. This section makes up the majority of the book while engrossing readers in chapters that outline everything you need to stay safe while in an emergency situation.
- Part II When You Need to Bug Out: How to Prepare for an Evacuation. This section of the book focuses on what you and your family need to do in the event of an evacuation in your area. It includes how to prepare a “Bug Out Bag” for every member of your family as well as knowing what documents you shouldn’t ever leave home without.
I loved the large Appendix area of the book where Linda lists several different checklists for what you should strive to have on hand during any kind of emergency based on your family size and needs. I always love a good checklist!
