Quick and Easy Chocolate Cookies Recipe

Although we’ve been making this recipe for quite some time now, I’ve hesitated to post it. Why? Well, the answer is a little silly….they just aren’t very pretty! But the other day as I was downing half a plateful of these little treats I realized…who cares what they look like, all that really matters is the taste!

Easy Chocolate Cookies

And this recipe is not only yummy, but super easy as well since you only need 5 ingredients to make it. You can also make these cookies with regular flour and gluten free flour.

Easy Chocolate Cookies

What You Need:

  • 8 ounces softened Cream Cheese
  • 1 stick Butter, softened (1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour or Gluten Free Flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2/3 cup Sugar

In a bowl, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar. I use a larger raw sugar so I let my mixture sit just a bit here so the sugar dissolves into the cream, if you use a regular sugar you can skip the waiting.

Add in the flour and cocoa powder, mix until well combined.

Drop by teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet. Place in then oven at 350 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes (gluten free will take a bit longer). I like to pull mine out of the oven while they are still a bit soft so I go closer to 10 minutes even when making these gluten free.

Let them cool and enjoy! Store extras in the fridge. You could also make a double batch and stick the extras in the freezer since these freeze well!

  1. Hi Merissa, I don’t care how they look, they sound delicious. But in the picture, it looks like cream and not cream cheese. How do you get your cream cheese so liquidy like that, do you warm it? It almost looks like sour cream.

    1. I used my “cream cheese alternative” when I took the pictures (blended cottage cheese). I usually make this with regular cream cheese though. However both methods work the same! 🙂

  2. I like the sound of these, and I actually have some cream cheese on hand! I made frosted sugar cookie hearts for the grandkids today..it is a tradition. Since hubby retired,he is here now when I bake, It is so hard to keep him out of things!! I had to package up the kids’ cookies and let him eat some of the remaining ones..silly man, anyways!!

  3. Hi! I’m so glad to come across this website. I also enjoy the more simple thing’s in life & I have alway’s & will be a country girl.

  4. These look delicious! The only problem for me is that I’m lactose intolerant. Do you have an idea for what to substitute for the cream cheese? (Butter is no problem.) Do you think soy yogurt might work? Thanks for all the great ideas you post!

    1. I think it’s possible that a yogurt might work. I don’t have experience with soy yogurt so I’m not totally sure how it would react but it’s worth a try 🙂 I have made this recipe with vegan cream cheese for my son who is allergic to dairy and it worked well.
