Recipe for Dill Dip

Homemade Dill Dip Recipe

When I was a kid, my mom would make a veggie tray with dill dip for every holiday party.

For me, that dill dip was pretty much the best part of the holidays, and I looked forward to it over and over again.

Eventually, I wised up and asked her for the recipe so I could make it myself between holidays, and boy, am I so glad I did! Now I eat it all the time. I even use it as salad dressing sometimes!

As it turns out, this delicious, tangy dip is super easy to stir together and has the added bonus of making children eat more veggies, which is never a bad thing. Plus you can use fresh dill straight from your garden!

What You Need:

  • 1 teaspoon fresh dill weed (or substitute dried dill instead)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon grated onion
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (You can use Homemade Mayo too!)

How to Make Homemade Dill Dip

Stir all ingredients together until well blended.

For best results, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several hours before using, to let the flavors combine and kind of meld together.

*Just in case you weren’t sure….dill weed is the part of the dill plant that looks like a fern and grows from the stalk, not from the top of the plant.

Serve with crudités, chips, or veggies! If you have fresh veggies growing in your garden right now, this dip pairs perfectly with sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, celery or carrots. Or try them with these Homemade Rice Chips.

You can also use it as a creamy salad dressing as I do. This homemade dill dip is especially good on cucumber salad. Just sliced up some cucumbers, add in some thinly sliced white onions and toss with dill dip to coat.

  1. I love veggies. Eat them all the time. No dip just as is. But I am going to have to try this. Looks so good. Going to substitute 2/3 with yogurt instead of mayo (cut the fat, calories and my body will be happier) love the recipes you post

    1. Just made it with plain Greek yogurt. Had to add a pinch of garlic salt to get that tangy yogurt taste hidden. 😂

  5. I found your recipe on Pinterest and was thrilled to find a recipe using fresh dill! I have a ton of fresh dill in my hydro-pod planter and nothing to use it in until now. I am going to try fresh parsley as well since I also have an abundance as well. Wish me luck!
