Last night while making a short trip to Walgreens I noticed a women checking out at the cosmetics counter. I had gone in looking for just one thing that was on register reward this week and there wasn’t any left on the shelf. While I passed by the cosmetics counter on the way to the door I noticed this woman had a pile of what I was looking for and was doing several transactions to get all of them. I left frusterated.
Shelf clearing is something that bothers me. Yes, there are some awesome deals out there sometimes, and yes when we find those deals it’s tempting to snatch it all up. But isn’t it better to share the wealth? I have a large stockpile that I’ve accumulated over the last 2 years, sometimes I’ve gotten serveral things that were on sale from the same store at one time. But I do not shelf clear. I always make sure I leave some on the shelf for the next person. If I really want more of the item I will wait until the end of the week and if there is still some left I will get more.
Now I know that “No shelf clearing” isn’t really a set in stone rule. You aren’t going to get arrested or be accused of fraud for clearing a shelf, but I think that we should all be able to get a good deal. I read a few weeks ago on a couponing forum some very interesting dialog. Couponers were saying that we shouldn’t be teaching new couponers how to use coupons and we should keep all the knowledge to ourselves. I completely disagree with this. Who am I to say that you shouldn’t be able to get as good of deal as I can?
I feel the same way with blinkies and tearpads. I don’t take a huge pile of the coupons when I find them. I take a few and leave the rest. If, after a few days or weeks, they are still there, I will take some more.
How does everyone else feel about this? Maybe I’m the only one that gets frustrated with the shelf clearers?
