This week has been a very busy one! I’ve been working on a big project and on top of that my garden has started producing a large amount of produce each day so I’m just trying to keep up with putting it all away!
So here’s what’s been going on around here this week…
We built a little bridge for our goats. They’ve been a little ornery this week as they figured out how to crawl under a fence and come into the yard. Luckily they follow me around really well so they are easy to put back in but the fence is getting fixed this weekend and hopefully this bridge will help give them something else to do instead of find new ways to get into the yard. My expecting nannies are finally starting to show just a bit. Two of them are due in about 2 months so they have a ways to go. We are getting excited to see some little babies though!
Ok, this really is a picture of my garden fail. Yes we are so blessed by how abundant everything is, but I honestly had no idea just what abundant meant! I have watermelon and melon plants that are hiding under the pumpkins because the pumpkins practically took over half of the garden. This is actually a picture of 7 different kinds of plants (3 winter squash, zucchini, summer squash, melons, watermelons, pumpkins, and cucumbers) but it looks like one big massive plant! Lesson learned. Next year the pumpkins will be in a different area of the yard. In the meantime, can you help me find my way out of this sea of leaves? 🙂
Even though I was busy with some other projects this week I still squeezed in some time to get some preserving done. I stayed up quite late one night but I was determined! I picked up a good deal on peaches and apricots earlier this week and blanched some peas and broccoli and also shredded some zucchini. This was my first time canning apricots and I tried to can them in halves like my Granny did but I found that it left too much space in the jars so I’ll be canning them like my peaches next time. I’m always still learning. 🙂
