The Best Cream Cheese Frosting

There’s nothing like a delicious cream cheese frosting. Creamy, rich, decadent, with that tangy bite that really makes sweet treats sing. Forget buttercream; I use cream cheese frosting for almost every kind of pastry and this is the best cream cheese frosting recipe that you can find. From the obvious like German Chocolate Cake and Red Velvet Cake, to the not so obvious like sugar cookies and blondies, cream cheese frosting is SO yummy.

Thankfully, it couldn’t be easier to make. Just four ingredients and a little elbow grease (or a mixer), and you have the best frosting you’ll ever try.

Cream Cheese Frosting

Best Cream Cheese Frosting (makes enough for one single-layer cake; can be doubled)

  • 1/2 cup whipped Cream Cheese
  • 1 cup organic heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp turbinado sugar

First, whip the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. If you’re doing this by hand, it’ll take at least 10 minutes. Do yourself a favor and use an electric mixer.

Next, add the cream cheese. Whip it into the whipping cream until stiff peaks form.

Add the vanilla and sugar and mix for 1-2 minutes until thoroughly combined.

Now you can use it to frost anything you’d like. It’ll keep in the refrigerator for a day or two, but it won’t last that long. Don’t feel like making a cake? This cream cheese frosting also tastes terrific as a dip for fresh fruit.

  10. I am disappointed that there’s nothing but Cream Cheese Frosting. I searched twice for Butter Cream Frosting and both came back with this Cream Cheese Frosting only as it’s the one you prefer. Why bother listing Butter Cream Frosting?!

  11. When you say whipped cream cheese, are you using the expensive kind in the tub, or are you whipping the block cream cheese yourself?
