Uses of Aloe Gel

Aloe gel is one of those multi-purpose ingredients that every homesteader or natural loving mama should have in her arsenal. My mother in law was a wise woman and always had an aloe plant in her kitchen for her self-proclaimed clumsy kitchen burns. That’s my go-to use for aloe gel as well, but truthfully treating burns is only the beginning of what aloe can do. It is particularly great for hydrating and nourishing skin in topical uses, but fresh aloe gel can also be taken internally in small doses as well.

To harvest fresh aloe gel, cut off a leaf, cut it in half, and scoop out the inside with a spoon. You can puree it to make it smooth and ready to use. You can also alternatively, just cut the tip of the leaf and squeeze the leaf and the slimy gel will ooze out. The second method is my quick method when treating kitchen burns. For topical uses like these, just squeeze it out and rub it on the skin. Easy peasy.

If you don’t have a live aloe vera plant and would like one, make sure to check your local greenhouse. They are usually located by the succulent plants.

Or if you don’t have an aloe vera plant to harvest from, you can also purchase natural aloe vera online to have for some of the DIY recipes..

Here are uses of aloe gel that I know of, but this is probably only be scratching the surface.

  1. There are 2 different kinds of aloe,
the medicinal only, non edible plant,

choose the right one if your going
to put it in your body.

  2. I use aloe gel as a facial moisturizer. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t have any of the oils that can cause breakouts, I think it helps prevent them.

  3. Emerald, how do you know which is the right type to use for medicinal use. I thought they were all the same. Would be greatful if you could let me know. Many thanks Val

  4. How long does it last once you remove it from the plant? I tried some last year and put it in the frig. It turned pink, then started stinking. Does that mean it is bad for wounds at that point?

  9. Such a nice roundup for all the uses of aloe vera. I know aloe vera is very helpful to relieve sunburn, but I have no idea that it can be also used to reduce eye puffiness and as makeup remover. Now I definitely will get myself one aloe plant soon!
