Update: Thank you for all your comments. I sent off a very long email to Safeway tonight and I am waiting for their response, I will keep you updated.
I recieved an email today from a local reader that wanted to let me know about her recent experience at Safeway.
“I had THE WORST experience EVER at Safeway tonight!! The store manager came over to the self check out stand (my helper checker was NOT nice to me either) and basically accused me of “ripping” off Safeway because i was using the rancher reserve coupons on meat, strip steaks etc. all for $2.25 a pkg etc. he got SO beligerent with me, loud on top of it and EVERYBODY I swear in any checkouts close by was watching the spectacle!! Do you have these problems? He told me that the cpns were “expected” to be used on bigger pkgs of meat. Oh my gosh I am soooo upset! I have been harassed and totally humiliated at the other Safeway store and even called corporate, but it seems like corp couldn’t care one bit how upset people are, or how bad folks are treated! It’s as if they are not “regulated” by anybody at all! I am ready to throw in the towel on couponing alltogeher, I am so tired of the fighting to use coupons in legal matters, being humiliated in front of other people, and basically accused of being a “thief” or a “cheater”.”
I’ve also personally had some very very bad experiences at Safeway. One time customer service got mad at me for using coupons at self checkout and she told me it was my fault that the Safeway coupons didn’t ring up, even though I had the right items, and she went to the register, pulled all the coupons out of the register brought them over to me at customer service, crumpled them all
up in my face and threw them in the trash. I was not impressed. She’s also told me before that she wouldn’t adjust a price because something rang up wrong because I used a coupon on it anyways so I still got a discount. For the recent Rancher’s Reserve meat coupon she tried to tell me first that I needed to get $10 worth of products(not just meat but everything) which I pointed out that I did. So then she told me I couldn’t use 2 in the same transaction, which might be true but it does not specify that on the coupon at all, which I pointed out. And she told me, well all the other coupons do, to which I replied,I’m not using the other coupons, I’m using this one.
I hate the idea that my readers are being treated so poorly at stores that we are choosing to give business to. It’s time that we did something to hopefully help us have a better shopping experience at Safeway in the future. In the comments section please tell us about your bad shopping experiences at Safeway.
