Making chocolate cream cheese frosting from scratch can be almost as easy as cracking open a jar -- and the one you make yourself will have far fewer ingredients! Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting


  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese softened
  • 4 tsp white or turbinado sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla


  1. Step 1: Whip the whipping cream with a hand mixer or a stand mixer. You can whip it by hand, but it will take a LONG time and your arm will feel like it's going to fall off. It took me about 5 minutes with my KitchenAid stand mixer on medium-high to get the cream to the right, stiff, consistency.
  2. Step 2: Mix the cocoa powder and sugar together with a fork in a small bowl.
  3. Step 3: When the cream is completely stiffed and whipped, beat in the sugar/cocoa mixture on medium power.
  4. Step 4: Fold in the vanilla extract and cream cheese.
