Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 eggs separated
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.

  3. Whip the egg whites and set them aside.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter. Then add the sugar and beat well.
  5. Stir in beaten egg yolks and nutmeg.
  6. Alternately add dry ingredients and fold in egg whites, adding lemon juice with egg whites
  7. Stir in vanilla extract
  8. Add to a loaf pan or bundt ban and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour
