Welcome to the second week of our challenge! Remember this isn't just about cleaning things up, it's about getting rid of all the things you aren't using and don't really need that are causing clutter in your life.

Make sure you have boxes for donation and "get-rid-of" items plus bags for trash. I also recommend reading through the book Simpler Living as we work through this challenge.

This second week we are going to tackle the kitchen! I don't know about you buy I have WAY too many unused appliances in my kitchen and I'm looking foward to cleaning them up and out! And make sure you don't skip out on cleaning out the fridge.

I'll be posting again in a few days so we can share our cleaning accomplishments (aka: how many bags of trash you cleaned out, how many boxes of things you are getting rid of).

What are the biggest challenges you will have cleaning out the kitchen this week?

I have a few appliances to get rid of. A few months ago I pared down my dishes & cooking utensils and I have been SO glad I did. It is only my son and I so I have two dinner plates, two salad plates, and two bowls (all matching). I have three different size pots, all with lids, and two skillets – one large, one small. A small stack of mixing bowls, a colander, a grater, a rolling pin, a strainer, a cutting board, measuring cups & spoons (one set, matching). That’s it! I can’t tell you how much stuff I got rid of – probably at least 3 boxes of dishes. So this week should be pretty easy – but I really need to go through my junk drawer and my silverware drawer, and clean out the fridge. 🙂

Hubz has been quietly mentioning that the fridge is in need of some TLC inside. Ugh. I’ve been dreading it, but I guess I’ll get down to it this week. We just had a yard sale and went through most of the cabinets then, but the junk drawer and the miscellaneous-rubbermaid-lid drawer could use some attention as well.

To clean the fridge, I toss out all the old leftovers before my next shopping trip. Then with that extra room, I move stuff off of one shelf. Then clean just that one shelf and its walls surrounding it. That’s it. I’m done, and next week I do the same. Then in a little over one month’s time the entire fridge is clean!! Now it is not a chore anymore. If you keep up this habit, it will get easier each week…promise.
