Cleaning Up and Out Challenge

I mentioned the other day that I've been starting to clean out. To beat the cleaning mind game and simplify the clutter. Even since I posted that article and really ever since I started cleaning in my house something has been weighing heavily on my mind.

I have WAY too much stuff. Even cleaning out and having less stuff I still have way too much.

Now I really don't have a very big house right now. And maybe compared to some I don't have alot of stuff. But I've just been feeling like I don't appreciate what I have enough. So I feel like it's time to do something about it. Time to seriously clean out and only keep what we really need and use. The best way I can think to do this is to take one room at a time and take my time going through it. (And keep it organized along the way!)

Would you want to join me?

I'll be taking one room in my house at a time and taking one week just to work on that one room. I'll be using my system of a bag for garbage, a box for selling, and a pile for items that need to be moved elsewhere, as I clean. A whole week should give us plenty of time to get the room cleaned out and only leave the things we really need behind. At the end of everything I'll be having one really big rummage sale and donating the rest!

So what do you think? Things like this work better with support groups! If you are with me we start Monday!

P.S. I highly recommend doing these 2 things over the weekend if you plan to join in. First, make sure you grab some boxes and garbage bags. Second, I showed you this book the other day but I highly recommend getting the book Simpler Living to help you in this!

I LOVE going through my stuff and getting rid of it. I do it every few months. It’s like an addiction! Ha.

Yes! I am totally on boatd. I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile. It will be great to have some structure!

Sounds like our house the past month we have a probable move coming up and we have a combination of my grandfathers (think old farmer pack-rat that lived here for over 30 yrs) my husbands old apt, my room from my parents and my dorm stuff plus everything we added from my 8 yr old and our marriage. πŸ™‚

i actually started delving into this about 2 days ago. it is hard, but with us about to move, it is necessary. so yes, i’m on board with you! i have pledged to get my bedroom done by monday evening! we’ll see if that actually happens or not.

As a professional organizer I was pleased to read all the comments about cleaning out the unnecessary stuff you all have collected. Getting rid of those items is really a mind set decision…it won’t work until you have reached that point. Over the years I have seen a lot of people who say they are ready to get organized but wouldn’t get rid of the extra’s, we just moved it from one place to another. One of the tips I tell my customers is that EVERYTHING has to have a home! If you are out shopping and see something you think you can’t live without the first thing to consider is where are you going to put it? Good luck to all of you in your efforts!
