Yes, in case you were wondering this is the recipe for my purple ribbon sugar cookies:) I love making these soft roll out cookies. They are simple and so yummy. I normally just make a plain frosting for the top but this time I wanted to put a little twist on it and make it strawberry. The result was a perfect cookie + frosting that also smelled amazing. Please excuse my random cookie shapes when you get to the cookie pictures....I only have 7 cookie cutters; 2 hearts, a tree, a house, a butterfly, a star, and a maple leaf for some random reason.
P.S. These aren't good for you but when you are making sugar cookies....does it matter? : D

What you need:

Cookies

  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 c. sour cream
Frosting
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 4 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/8 c strawberry juice
Melt the butter and mix in the sugar.
Add the eggs and vanilla to the sugar/butter mixture. Mix well.
Add the dry ingredients to the mixture. Then add in the sour cream. Mix well until all the ingredients are blended.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Make cut outs with cookie cutters.
Bake at 400F, on a greased cookie sheet, for about 8 minutes or until they start to get slightly browned.
Mix together all the ingredients for the frosting. For the "strawberry juice" I just took frozen strawberries and thawed them in the microwave. Then I strained the juice out of them and mixed the juice into the frosting.
