How to Make Your Own Lilac Lotion

If there’s a product that I absolutely love making a homemade version of, it’s lotion. Store-bought skin products aren’t budget-friendly and contain harmful additives and preservatives (such as parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances).

I have shared various homemade lotion recipes in the past, so feel free to check them out. And, believe me, making your own lotion isn’t as hard as you think. If you love the smell of lilacs (as much as I do), then this homemade lilac lotion recipe is a must-try for you!

Add your flowers into a glass jar. Pour the oil over the flowers to make sure they are fully covered. Then cover the jar with a lid and leave for 2-4 weeks to infuse the oil.

TIP! Shake the jar every day to ensure the leaves are fully covered in oil.

Adding mica powder to mixed beeswax pellets, shea butter, and infused oil

After the infusion period, strain the oil. In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl set over a pot of simmering water, melt the beeswax pellets, shea butter, and the infused oil together.

Once it is fully melted, set aside in the fridge until it is solid, which is about an hour or so. Mix with a hand mixer until it is fluffy and has a whipped consistency, just like in the photo above.

Add the mica powder. Be sure to mix it thoroughly until you get the color you like. Finally, pour the mixture into small glass jars.

Can you make your own scented lotion?

Definitely! You can use any type of essential oil you like to create your own unique scented lotion at home. Some popular choices include lavender, rose, chamomile, and peppermint. Just don’t use oils that can cause phototoxicity. (ie: lemon oil)

What are the benefits of using homemade lotion?

Making your own homemade lotion means you can control the ingredients in it (use natural and less harmful ones), save money, be eco-friendly, and customize your creation.
