7 Body Products That You Can Make With 5 Ingredients

I love making homemade things with just a few ingredients that I have on hand, it goes along perfectly with my motto of “making the most with what I have”!

For someone that hasn’t ever made their own body and beauty products, starting can seem overwhelming. First, you have a mass of ingredients to buy (which can get expensive), and then you have utensils you need to make the things in and put them in after they are made, plus the time you have to take to make it.

Well, this post is a great one for you beginners or those that are looking to make as many things as possible with just a few ingredients. All of these recipes can be made using the same 5 ingredients and each recipe takes a short amount of time so that it’s not so overwhelming and can even be made when you are short on time.

Homemade Body Products

The 5 ingredients used in the following recipes are:

A homemade Zit Zapper is a simple way to get started! If you can melt things, you can make this recipe. All you need is a bit of coconut oil and tea tree essential oil and you’ve got a powerful little tool. You can either buy empty lip balm tubes or you can clean out some used ones that you already have.

Homemade Lotion Bars

Homemade Lotion Bars are a staple in our home. I love them because they are firmer than homemade body butter so they won’t melt as easily in the summer (although like any lotion you still don’t want to get them hot). Lotion Bars take a simple combo of only 3 ingredients, beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. –And if you want to learn to make lotions, here’s a great post on 18 Easy Homemade Lotion Recipes!

All out of shaving cream? You can easily make more with this Homemade Shaving Cream Recipe. All you need is a bit of shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil. This recipe is a favorite one of my husband since it helps to give a smooth clean shave without chafing sensitive skin.

Vanilla Lip Balm

Homemade Lip Balm is something we use any time of year. In the summer is helps with sunburned lips and in the winter it helps smooth winter chapped lips. Homemade lip balm is so easy to make, you just need the basics…beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil!

How about a simple Body Butter? You could make one easily using shea butter as a base and adding in coconut or olive oil. A few drops of tea tree essential oil and you’ve got a great healing blend! You can learn how to my DIY Body Butters here.

One of the easiest homemade body products to make is Homemade Vaseline. All you need is olive oil and beeswax and you have an excellent alternative to the store-bought product that is totally natural and works wonders on chaffed skin. This is our family favorite during cold season, it is such a welcome sight for a sore nose!

Coconut Oil Lotion

Looking for an amazing body lotion? You have to give this Coconut Oil Lotion a try. It is really easy, all you need to make it is coconut oil! This lotion is best as a winter lotion as it tends to melt when your house gets too warm but it’s still a great starter lotion nonetheless and a very easy one to make when you have few ingredients on hand.

And there you have it…7 wonderfully simple body products that you can make with only 5 ingredients!

One more bonus recipe….although this recipe isn’t a body product, it uses the same ingredients as the products above and you may be interested in giving it a try!

Beeswax Candles are a very simple, basic candle to make and they make your house smell wonderful when they are burning! Get the tutorial here.

  1. Simple ingredients are my kind of diy. These are wonderful recipes. Thank you for posting! Pinning this. Stopping by from Thursday Favorite Things.

  2. Thank you so much, Merissa. For the very reasons you site, not to mention the storage space required, I’ve only made homemade products like household cleaners and some basic essential oil diffuser recipes. I’ve definitely been amazed at how many ingredients some lotion, soap and shower gel, lip balm, and hair care recipes can call for…not to mention the cost of the ingredients (and shelf life). Now I can make great use of just a few basic ingredients. Again, thank you. Cheers, Ardith

  3. I’ve never tried making shave cream but your recipe sounds worth a try. Found you via the blog hop. Great recipes. Thanks!

  4. Hi Merissa! Love your site! Question on the items needed. I have Olive Oil & Coconut Oil I use for cooking. Is it the same or do I need a special kind?

  5. Those first four recipes are so versatile – and if you’re not a huge fan of Tea Tree, it’s easy to get your hands on loads of other great essential oils 🙂

    1. The only recipe that I’m not sure it would work as well in would be the lotion bars since it doesn’t quite have the consistency of shea butter. You may be able to add a little more beeswax and coconut oil to balance it out. Otherwise, that substitution should work in the other recipes posted here.
