00:37 – Hi everyone. It’s Merissa from littlehouseliving.com. I am so excited to introduce you to my new podcast channel. If you are part of my Facebook group, you might’ve seen that recently. I’ve been asking about ways that you listened to things online and I know that there was more votes for YouTube, but ultimately I was definitely more comfortable with podcasts. So here we are and like I said, I’m so excited about this. This is a new project for me and I get to learn all new techie things in software, which um, actually isn’t that exciting, but I think this is going to be fun. It will be a great new way for me to connect with you and just talk to each other. So I wanted to start out today by just introducing myself so you can learn a little bit more about me and why I started my website in the first place and kind of some goals that I have for this podcast channel.

01:36 – So I am a mom of three and I have been married for 12 years to my husband David. We have two boys and one little girl and they definitely keep me busy all the time. We homeschool so the kids are at home with me all day and I, I work on the Little House Living website early in the morning and very late at night. That is the only time I get the opportunity to do it. Very, very different than when I started it 10 years ago. So I’ll talk about that a little more in a little bit. But, so I am a South Dakotan. I was born and raised in South Dakota and have lived there my whole life. But we just moved to Ohio a couple of weeks ago. Me and my husband are in full-time missionary work and we are here in Ohio doing an internship for the next year before we get to our official placement.

02:33 – So that is where I’m at currently is quite different than South Dakota, but we’re getting used to it pretty quickly and making new friends. So I grew up living a frugal and simple life. And then when me and my husband got married, we still lived a pretty frugal and simple life. Um, it’s hard not to live frugal when you live on next to nothing. So know I had to learn a in a short amount of time. We’ve lived in various homes and homesteads and rentals and RVs over the last 12 years. But everything has been an experience and something that we’ve learned and grown from. So I started my website, Little House Living back in 2009 because I wanted to share our frugal lifestyle and adventures as well as offer encouragement to others who wanted to live the same way, who are, who already were living the same way.

03:29 – Obviously her life looks a little different now than it did in 2009. I have children and I have not as much time to work on my website unless I want to stay up really late. But still, the same things remain. We live, we live a frugal lifestyle and we live simple and none of those values have changed. Of course. I’ve always loved to write ever since I was little and kept journals and did creative writing classes and things like that. I’ve always loved to write and share things, um, that way. So having Little House Living was my creative writing outlet. It was a way that I could get my words out to the world and it’s still something that I enjoy doing all the time. So I feel very lucky and very blessed that I get to continue to do that even here 10 years later.

04:23- So this podcast, I have a few ideas for it and obviously I’m brand new at this, so everything is kind of up in the air. But my goal for this podcast is to have one new episode every week. I would like to talk about either simple or for frugal living tips or some of both, just depending on what the topic is. And then I’d also like to take some time to answer some questions from you, my listeners as well. I get a lot of emails through the Little House Living website and get a lot of questions on a daily basis and I’d love to take the opportunity of this podcast to be able to answer some of those in a longer thought out way that I can do better through speaking than I can through typing. And I really believe that there is a lot of questions that I get that would be helpful to answer to just the general public rather than just to one person.

05:25 – So those are my goals right now, one new podcast episode a week, and to try and answer as many questions as I can, I will have a form in the show notes of the show so that you can fill it out. If you have a question that you’d like me to answer on a future podcast, you can also email me any time at [email protected] I’m going to wrap up this podcast and just keep it short and sweet today since it’s just an introduction. But I just wanted to let you guys know these things and let you know how this podcast is going to look. I so hope that you’re going to join me on this new adventure that I’m trying and, please feel free to give me your comments and give me your questions and I’m just so excited to journey together with you.

06:21 – Thanks for listening to this first episode of the Little House Living Show. I hope that you tune in again next time to hear more simple tips and frugal living ideas that will help you make the most with what you have.

  6. I am really excited to hear what is coming next. I have gone to Guatemala on several mission trips through my church and have been downsizing and “going back to basics” as I call it, ever since. This has been a 2 year process and I will continue to do so. I love the simple and frugal ways. Thank you for sharing your story with us!!

  7. I would love for you to do a podcast on your missionary work and how you and your family make it all work while still living the simple life. I would also love to hear how you decided to unschool. I loved your family closet idea!
