Looking for the perfect topping for your next bowl of ice cream or plate of brownies? The frugal Homemade Chocolate Sauce is SO simple and costs very little to make!
Easy Frugal Homemade Chocolate Sauce Recipe
Our household is quite divided when it comes to chocolate. We have 2 that absolutely love it, one that is indifferent, one that is allergic, and one that absolutely hates it.
So in other words, we usually always have some form of chocolate or carob on hand to settle any cravings and to keep everyone from a dispute.
One of my children loves chocolate and would eat it all day every day if I let him. He’s always asked me for chocolate to pour over things from the store, but it usually doesn’t fit into my budget, and I always find it hard to justify a purchase for only one person of the household unless it’s really necessary.
But then I thought…of course, just like anything else, a homemade chocolate syrup can be made with simple, frugal pantry staples!
I hope this is the perfect recipe for the chocolate lover in your house.

What types of foods do you top with Chocolate Syrup?
Merissa, we have a carob tree in our front yard. Do you have any idea how to make the pods into powder. Is it the seeds or the pod itself?
Hi Jan,
You will be using the pods and not the seeds (although they have different uses). Here is a link, I hope this helps you.

I just made your choco banana bars recipe and it was yummy by itself but this was the perfect sauce for extra decadence! Thanks for this frugal recipe, chocolate sauce can get expensive.
Oh what a good idea!
Can you put less sugar in it? I am trying to cut back on my sugar.
Yes, you can use less sugar or a sugar alternative.
I am 70 years old. Been eating and making this all my life. Might gross some people, but when in grade school mother would make us chocolate sauce sandwiches. I thought I was in hog heaven. She would mix the sugar and chocolate first then add the water, but same recipe.
Wonderful to know how “tried and true” this recipe is!
Just wondering I this would work to make chocolate milk? Thanks! I really enjoy your blog.
Yes, it will! 🙂 Just add as much as desired to your glass of cold milk.
Can you tell me if I am supposed toaster during the three minute boil, please?
Ha, Ha, Ha, it was supposed to say STIR, not toaster, sorry!
Could this be canned in pint jars? Pressure or water bath? And for how long would you suggest?
Yum! I will be using this one. Thanks, Merissa!
Thank you so much for a wonderful recipe. It was quick, easy and tastes amazing.
