Want to stop buying expensive spreadable butter with questionable ingredients? You can make your own homemade spreadable butter with just 2 ingredients!

soft spreadable butter on a muffin

My kids love spreadable butter. It’s just so much easier for them to put on their breads and muffins!

We’ve tried doing the Butter Bell to keep butter at room temp to keep it soft and sometimes it works but sometimes it gets moldy so it doesn’t seem to be a foolproof method in my mind. This is the butter crock I have.

We just prefer to have the spreadable butter and store it in the fridge. The good thing is, it’s very easy to make! You can use this to spread on breads and things like that but you can also use it to cook or fry things in instead of straight butter for more of a budget-stretching fat.

ingredients in spreadable butter

Ingredients in Spreadable Butter

  • Butter. Salted or unsalted, it’s your preference. I use all salted butter here.
  • Olive Oil. I use regular extra virgin olive oil in mine because that’s what I always have on hand but you could use a more mild oil as well if you want to tone down the flavor.

How to Make Spreadable Butter

Place your butter on the counter to soften for several hours until very soft but not melted. This will help keep it creamy. You might have some lumps if you don’t, which are totally fine, but not the smooth texture you might be expecting.

Put the butter and the oil in a large bowl and beat with a mixer until smooth and combined. That’s all there is to it!

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Place your butter on the counter to soften for several hours until very soft but not melted. This will help keep it creamy. You might have some lumps if you don't, which are totally fine, but not the smooth texture you might be expecting.

  2. Put the butter and the oil in a large bowl and beat with a mixer until smooth and combined. That's all there is to it!

  3. Store the butter in the fridge.

Storing DIY Spreadable Butter

Store the butter in a container (I use an old butter container!) in the fridge. It should stay soft and spreadable without having to take it out to soften.
