Want to make a homemade version of strawberry pop tarts? Your family is going to love this super easy recipe!
Strawberry Pop Tarts Recipe
I just love to make homemade versions of “store food.” It almost always comes out cheaper, and you get to decide what ingredients you want inside of them!
The recipe I’m sharing with you today is a very simple one and can be put together in no time. Sometimes we use these Homemade Pop Tarts for a quick breakfast on the go or for a simple afternoon snack or treat, especially when the kids are busy playing outside.
We choose not to add any sugar to the top of ours when we make them, but if you want to make them very similar to the store version, I’ve also shared instructions on how to add a simple icing to these after they are cooled.
Ingredients in the Strawberry Pop Tarts Recipe
- Pie dough. If you have some from the store you can use that or you use one recipe of Homemade Butter Pie Crust. If you want to make a gluten-free version you can make your pie crust using Gluten Free All Purpose Flour.
- Strawberries. This recipe calls for fresh strawberries, but you can also make it with strawberry preserves, strawberry jam, or another kind of jelly that you have on hand.
- Powdered sugar and Milk. These are optional if you want to give your poptarts a little bit of frosting. If you want to skip the extra sugar, you don’t need to add this.
Just made these! Pie dough was on sale for $1 so I just used that… They were so easy to make and turned out so good!! It was a fun treat for my kids (and mom)!

Variations to the Recipe
- To make the icing, whisk the powdered sugar and milk together and pour over. This is optional! Only add the glaze after the pop tarts have cooled down or it will all run off.
- Cut the pie crust with a fun cookie cutter to make your pop tarts in a special shape.
- Add a few sprinkles to the frosting or you can do this by brushing them with an egg wash before baking and add the sprinkles on that if you don’t want the added sugar of the frosting.
- Add a bit of lemon juice to the chopped strawberries to keep them from browning.
- You can use puff pastry to make these, but they will turn out more like Toaster Strudels.
- Chop the strawberries in your food processor if you don’t want to do it by hand.
