I had to run some errands in town yesterday and I also wanted to pick up some cream for the cake I’m making for my birthday. When I got to Safeway I remember they had butter on sale this week for $2.49 a pound, which is the lowest it gets here, and I needed some. As I wandered around the dairy section I suddenly remembered that we were out of sour cream and I needed more half and half if I wanted any ice cream in the near future.
I stopped to pick up a few yogurts to get me through the next couple very busy days, my very favorite brand. Spent a little more on those than another brand I could have picked.
Finally I walked up the cheese aisle on my way to the checkstand and my favorite cheese yelled at me. I stopped and turned to take a look. There is was yelling, “Buy me! You’ve wanted me the last 3 times you’ve been in the store!”
So that made it’s way into my cart too.
I headed to the self check out and paid for my groceries and headed back out of the store to my car. On the way out, I threw the recipt in the trash and didn’t look back.
Yes, I broke everyone of my little normal rules, try and buy the lowest price item I can. Don’t impulse shop. Try and use coupons. Don’t buy things you don’t need. I’m sure I could go off on myself for a while. But I won’t because today I don’t care.
Every so once in a while it’s a good thing to take a break from the constant saving and pinching of each penny. If your grocery budget has a little room to breath, take a little break once in a while. Go to the store and buy nothing but that tub of ice cream that has your name on it every time you walk buy. Buy something that you know there is a coupon for…but don’t use the coupon. Be a rebel.
Just know, that it’s ok. Don’t feel guilty. You work hard to save all that money and you are doing an excellent job, give yourself a pat on the back and a big scoop of that ice cream. Trust me, once you dig your spoon into that creamy smooth goodness, you will feel all the guilt just melt away. Tomorrow is another day and the coupons and savings will still be there.
